As we are now starting to prepare for our Christmas production look out for a letter telling you what part your child is playing and words which they may have to learn. We also have our Christmas trip on Friday 14th December, please ensure you have consented and paid via parent pay. Things to remember:PE is on a Tuesday afternoon and Friday morning. Children will need a PE kit in school at all times in order to take part in PE please ensure that your child’s kit is clearly labelled with their name. If your child wears earrings, PLEASE cover them with plasters or remove on PE days. Children can bring a snack for morning break time, please put it in their book bags so it can be kept in their drawers until playtime. Homework will be given out on a Friday to be returned the following Thursday. Spelling tests will be on a Friday. Word Checks :Please, please, please practise these with your children at home. There are 35 in total – some children should be a lot further along than they are at this point in the year. Spellings: Spelling is VERY important in year 1 the expectation is huge! Children need to be practising every day in order to improve and then use them in their work. AUTUMN TERM 2 CURRICULUM INFORMATIONTHEME – Once Upon a Time & CastlesENGLISHThis half term we will be looking at fairy tales and poetry. The children will look at fairy tales such as Cinderella. In this topic the children will begin to relate to the characters from the story and talk about how they maybe feeling, what they look like and begin to describe the setting of the story. We will continue to work on sentence structure and using super sentences in our writing and begin to introduce connectives and adjectives to make our writing more interesting. In poetry we will be looking at rhymes and short poems to introduce children to poetry, with a finishing poem about what they love about Christmas. The children will no doubt be singing these to you as we prepare for our Christmas production.Addition: pairs to 5, 6 and 10Ordering numbers to 20 on a track, then beaded line, compare numbers, say which is more or less, and give a number between landmarks, e.g., 1 and 10, 10 and 20, and before and after 5, 10, 15, and 2SCIENCE In science we will be looking at materials and their properties. We will be discussing different materials such as wood, plastic, fabric and metal. The children will learn to sort materials into different categories including by material and by properties. COMPUTING In computing this term the children will be looking at programmable toys and word processing. The children will be using programmable toys and direct them to achieve a certain mission. – This will also be incorporated into the maths curriculum as it covers positional language. The children will also be familiarising themselves with a standard keyboard and learning how to navigate it. They will use it to create word banks, images with labels and inserts for things such as cards and calendars.HISTORY- In history this half term children will be exploring homes from the past and the present. They will begin to compare these and look at the similarities and differences, order them in chronological order and given opinions on why they think things have changed. DT-Through a variety of creative and practical activities, children will be to designing, making and evaluating a 3d structure. This linking in with our theme of once upon a time and castles, will be a castle. In this the children will learn the skills of designing carefully, joining materials together, finishing their model and then evaluating their final product.PSHE – Say No to bullying.Through circle time activities children will explore how things can change and how they make them feel. Children will have the opportunity to talk about what bullying is and how it can affect people. They will explore helping hands which give positive comments that can make people feel confident and re-assured. RE – why do we celebrate Christmas? In this unit the children will be discussing why Christmas is important any why it is celebrated by Christians and other religions across the world. They will investigate why gifts are given and how they make them feel as well as looking at the deeper meaning of Christmas. ................
