Facing It Together GroupTitle: Virtual FIT Meeting - South Asian Heritage Month and Involvement OpportunitiesGuest speaker – Rani Shukla, Dementia Support Worker Date: Tuesday 11th August 2020Summary:The virtual FIT meeting took place on zoom with four members of the FIT Group in attendance. Judith and Ross facilitated the meeting. Members were asked how they were, and everyone said they were keeping well. Ross and Judith invited Rani Shukla a Dementia Support Worker in Bradford to talk about her experiences and expectations when she moved here from India. Rani described different types of Indian food and that her favourite was Paneer (a type of cheese). Rani showed us some bangles and sari and described how in Indian culture they like to showcase bright colours. Rani also explained when the monsoon rains come in India it is cause to celebrate whereas in Bradford and the UK it is quite different somewhat. One member from an area of India was celebrating the birth of Lord Krishna, who is believed to the eighth avatar of the Hindu god Lord Vishnu. The celebration this year takes place across 11th and 12th August, further reading can be found at the bottom of this document. Judith and Ross presented some involvement opportunities for the group which are the following:Medication research project at Bradford University - An investigation of how people living with dementia at home manage their medicines and the role of community pharmacists in this process.?Speaker for Ilkley Rotary Club on living with Dementia and experiences during CoronavirusNorthumberland University and presenting initial findings on impacts of Coronavirus to the group.Ross gave a brief explanation on what Social Prescribing is to the group. No one in the group had heard of it or knows about it and so they would be open to hearing more about this role. Ross to invite a social prescriber to speak at a future meeting.
