Specific Learning Disability means: A disorder in one or more of the basic psychological processes involved in understanding or in using language (spoken or written), that may manifest itself in the imperfect ability to listen, think, speak, read, write, spell, or do mathematical calculations
IDENTIFICATION OF SLD: DISCREPANCY MODEL
Severe discrepancy between intellectual ability and achievement in one or more of of the following areas, requiring specialized academic instruction.
oral expression
basic reading skill
listening comprehension
reading fluency skills
written expression
reading comprehension
mathematical calculation
mathematical reasoning
Other models: Response to Intervention (RtI) Patterns of strengths and weakness (PSW)
BASIC PSYCHOLOGICAL PROCESSES
