Foundation Phase – Summer Term – Week 11These activities are for all children within the Foundation Phase.Where the work has been differentiated, please feel free to challenge your child/children with the next year group of work.Daily ActivitiesReading Spelling/HandwritingMental MathsJoe WicksMonday06/07/2020Mathematical DevelopmentR- Adding ten to a two-digit number. Ask your child to find number ‘12’ on the 1-100 number square grid. Using the grid they practice adding 10, 20 and 30 by moving vertically down the grid. What do they notice? They write the number sentence. I.e. 12+10=22, 12+20=32 and 12+30=42Repeat the process of adding 10, 20 and 30, starting with these numbers 17, 18, 21, 26, 34, 36, 37, 49 and 55.1 - Adding ten to a two-digit number. You will need the 1-100 number square grid to support this activity.Write the number sentence 24 + ? = 54 on paper and show to your child. Ask them to discuss in what number can replace the question mark. How did they work it out? Show your child the 1–100 number square grid and place a counter on number 24. To work out the answer, demonstrate how many vertical jumps of ten you would need to make down the grid until you reach 54. How many jumps of ten did you do? 3 so the counter jumped 30. So, 24+30=54Repeat with 41 + ? =81. What number needs to replace the question mark now? Ask your child to make up their own number sentences with question marks. You could even make this into a game. 2 - Doubling and halving by partitioning. You will need Resource Sheet 1375. Either halve or double using partitioning. Work through the activity together with your child. Start with doubling and only move on to halving in order to check these. Support the chn to check they are halving or doubling tens and 1s accurately. You may want to use pieces of dried pasta to help you if necessary.Remember how we double by partitioning. I.e. Double 21. Double 20 and then Double 1So, Double 21 is 42.Remember how we half by partitioning. I.e. Half 86.Half of 80 is 40Half of 6 is 3So, half of 86 is 43.3 - Doubling and halving by partitioning. As Year 2 Activity above you will need Resource Sheet 1375. Recap how we double and half using partitioning using the example above.Either halve or double using partitioning. Use your answers to match up pairs of numbers, drawing a line between them. Language, Literacy and CommunicationRecipe-sandwichDo you have a favourite sandwich? Which bread do you prefer to use? Which filling do you have? Do you have more than one filling? Have a go today (with some help if needed) at making your favourite sandwich. Think about everything you will need and as you make your sandwich talk about what you are doing. You will label each toy with the following prices 30p, 50p, 40p, 70p and 20p.All these toys are going up by 11p. Using your 1-100 number square grid to find the new prices of each item. Discuss new prices together.1 - Adding 11 to 2-digit numbers. You will need the 1-100 number square grid for this activity. Choose a number on the grid and place a counter on your chosen number. Today you are going to tell (talking only) someone how to make your favourite sandwich. Tell them what they will need. Think of the instructional work you have done before. You could tell them numbered steps and keep your sentences bossy and short. Did the person listening think your instructions were clear? How could they have been better? Think hard about this animal and gather information about your chosen animal. You are now going to ‘get into character’, you are going to pretend to be this animal. Could you dress up as this animal?Ask your mother/father/brother/sister etc to ask you questions about your chosen animal. You can be as creative as you want with your animals. You will need you 1-100 Number Square Grid for this activity.Choose a number between 20 and 80 on your 1-100 number square grid. I.e. 37Your child then adds 11 and colours the answer on the 1–100 grid in red. Record the addition, e.g. 37 + 11 = 48. Then go back to your starting number e.g. 37. Then subtract 11 and colour the answer on the 1–100 grid in red. Record the subtraction, e.g. 37 – 11 = 26. Now look at the two numbers coloured in red. Repeat the process, creating a new 2-digit starting number, adding 11, and then subtracting 11 and colouring both answers on the grid in blue. 1 - Recap adding and subtracting 11.
