Why take geography?International surveys have consistently ranked American high school students last in geographic knowledge, compared with their counterparts in other developed countries. 70% of young adults in the U.S. could not find their own country on amap of the world.30% of young Americans could not find the Pacific Ocean, the world’s largest body of water; more than half were unable to locate India.This year-long course conforms to the College Board topics for the Advanced Placement Human Geography examination. It introduces students to the patterns and processes that have shaped human understanding, use, and alteration of Earth’s surface. Topics covered include Basic Geography Concepts, Population, Cultural Processes, Cities and Urban Land Use, Industrialization and Economic Development, Agriculture and Rural Land Use, and the Political Use of Space. Complete Map ActivityPhysical geography is the "skeleton" on which Human Geography hangs. Labeling the outline maps with the features listed will build an understanding of the political and physical regions.Part of entering an AP class is an assumption of a certain level of background knowledge and skills. These maps will help you be more successful. Each map has a list of countries, cities, and or regions to label. Label each location with the correct number. Countries are listed in regular font and cites are listed in italics. Bolded items are really important. Below you will see ABC. These items will need to be drawn on your maps or shaded for the regions. Studying for map tests takes time and preparation. Quiz yourself and go to some of the links below to test yourself. Coloring is totally optional but will help with memorizing. Use an atlas—book or online – to find the locations.
