We are so glad you are considering trying out for the Sensations Competition Team! This team travels and represents the studio around the nation, specifically in the Southeast! This is a big commitment and we want you and your child to understand what all is involved. Here are a few things you will need to know:Tryouts are Sunday, May 31st. The audition fee is $25 and is non-refundable. This fee is to offset costs for judges, teachers and administration. The audition will consist of learning a combo in 30 minutes and performing specific skills for a group of judges. Our judges are selected each year and have no affiliation with the studio. The four-week summer classes are mandatory. Each dancer of the competition team will attend classes with their assigned group. Choreography will start in August during our competition workshop with regular classes resuming in September. There is a small chance that choreography for solos, duos, and trios may be done prior to August depending on choreographer’s availability. Competition and Convention season typically begins in November. Our regional competitions can range from the end of January through April. Generally, we have wrapped up our season by Spring Break. Dates of competitions and conventions should be provided to you by the end of August for planning purposes.2020-2021 Estimated Costs: Fees:*Parents and Students planning to attend any conventions will be responsible for all fees, hotel accommodations, and travel expenses. Each Convention fee is approximately $250. Conventions are optional but highly recommended and are great learning experiences for the dancers.*Each group dance is a accompanied with a fee from $50- $65. Budgeting- Highly Recommended:Depending on the number of routines your child is selected for, estimated costs for competition fees and costumes are divided over 5 months. (July through November). Your monthly competition payment to the studio will include a portion of your costume fee and competition fee. Costumes are estimated at $120. Competition fees are estimated at $50 per dance. After your November payment, your remaining balance will be due by December 15th. All credits will go towards your monthly tuition and additional recital fees. Classes:Competition classes are held during the week. If your child is in a solo, duet, trio, or small group, there will be added weekend practices closer to competition. Tuition will be based on the dances that your child makes for competition in addition to any regular classes. A ballet class is required for each dancer. This is MANDATORY! Tuition is $50 for the first student and $25 for each additional sibling, with each additional class being $15. Travel:Majority of our competitions are in the Southeast. Depending on the competition venue location and schedule, you may choose to drive up the morning of competition or obtain lodging locally. Punctuality is a MUST! Nationals:We attend Nationals biennially. This IS NOT a Nationals year!!! Please be aware that your child may not be selected for all of the dances that she/he tries out for. This is a COMPETITION team; therefore, the students picked for each dance must possess the skills necessary for that routine. The decisions are final. ALL dances have age requirements and limitations. You will receive an email approximately two weeks after try-outs informing you of which dances your child has been selected for, if any. All questions, concerns, or comments, should be directed to our email southernsensationsdance@. If your child misses more than 5 classes they will be removed from the competition routine. It is EXTREMELY important for each child to be at class every week. This is a team! Every absence effects the entire team, not just the individual dancer. Summer class are mandatory. The summer course is only 4 weeks this year. July 6th thru July 28th. The only classes that are mandatory are the Ballet and Flex/Technique classes for your age group. Since we are a competition team, it is extremely important that we take the summers to focus on technical improvement. Competitions and Performances:ALL competitions are MANDATORY!! This is to include the January Jubilee, James Clemens Dance Explosion, up to 3 regional competitions, and any other performances scheduled. Failure to perform in any of the above will result in dismissal from the team! There may be additional performance opportunities for the dancers such as the Madison Street Festival and Harlem Globetrotter’s Game.Payments:All tuition is due by the 5th of the month. Any tuition paid after this date will be charged a $15 late fee. Any account that is 2 months in arrears will be frozen and the child will not be allowed to take class until the account is caught up. There will also be a $500 maximum balance on any account due to costumes, fees, etc. If your account reaches this maximum, your child will not be allowed to attend competition or regular classes until it is caught up, which could result in being removed from the competition team as all competitions are mandatory and absences will be counted as stated above.Costumes:Once the costumes and accessories are handed out, they become your responsibility. We will have your child sign for his/her costumes and accessories. Costume will not be given to your child until payment has been received. If any costumes are lost or damaged, it will be your responsibility to replace those.
