SAINT LOUIS SCHOOL

HIGH SCHOOL PROFILE

Mission

To educate and challenge students of various religious, ethic, and economic backgrounds that they may achieve a quality education and become gentlemen of character reaching individual potential through the Catholic Marianist tradition of spiritual, academic, physical and emotional maturity.

School and Community Saint Louis School is the only all-boys, private, Catholic, Marianist, college preparatory school for grades kindergarten through grade twelve in Hawai`i. The school is the second oldest private school in Hawai`i, serving students of diverse religions, cultural traditions, and socio-economic backgrounds for 175 years. The school offers rigorous and relevant academic programs, preparing students for responsible leadership and embracing the Marianist characteristics of education--developing community through brotherhood and promoting service, justice and peace.

Six miles east of Honolulu's financial and civic center, Saint Louis School commands a panorama of Waikk and the Pacific from the Kalaephaku ridge of the Ko`olau mountains. In walking distance of the University of Hawai`i at Mnoa, the campus adjoins another Marianist facility, Chaminade University of Honolulu. Astride major transportation routes that link to a metropolitan population of over 950,000, Saint Louis serves students residing throughout the island of O`ahu.

Accreditation and Membership Saint Louis School is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), Hawai`i Association of Independent Schools (HAIS), and Western Catholic Educational Association (WCEA). Curriculum 2019-2020

Blended Learning Saint Louis School believes that the expectations of students and parents are met when a balance of authentic/traditional and progressive/personalized learning practices is implemented.

`ina-Based Learning A combination of place-based and indigenous culturebased education, `ina-based learning enables the Saint Louis Man to know his place in his nuclear family, his Saint Louis family, his community, island, state, nation and world. In all curricular disciplines, place, people, and relationships become the means to acquire and experience universal principles and fundamental understanding.

Collegiate Dual Enrollment Chaminade University of Honolulu and Saint Louis School partner to provide a dual enrollment program for juniors and seniors. Courses disciplines include English, math, art, religion, and social sciences.

Effective during the 2020-2021 school year, Saint Louis juniors and seniors have the option to take college level courses at Hawai`i Pacific University. Students may take individual classes for dual credit.

Credit transferability varies by college or university.

COVID-19 Pandemic Statement: Saint Louis School suspended on-campus learning in mid-March. We fully implemented distance-learning for the 4th quarter, mainly asynchronous. This fall, students were offered the choice to continue distancelearning or to return to campus for in person learning. All distance-learning is synchronous. Our grading system has remained the same.

In addition to the academic adjustments, students' extracurricular activities were also impacted. Athletics, clubs and activities were cancelled for spring 2020. Athletics normally scheduled for fall have been postponed to spring. Most clubs and activities have curtailed activities for the time being.

The class of 2021 has had limited opportunity to take the ACT or SAT as the exams had been cancelled since March of 2020. Saint Louis School did offer the ACT for the class of 2021 in October 2020.

Grading and Ranking Saint Louis School operates on a yearlong calendar with an A-F grading system. Honors courses are given an extra 0.5 grade point and Advance Placement an extra point each semester in the academic grade point average and cumulative grade point average.
