Materials:Pencils * or pens and erasers (will not accept work done in bright colors or red)Math Journal or binderNotebook paper (with binder) or SpiralGrading pens (any color except black, blue, or bright colors that are light in color like: yellow) or a Highlighter (Optional)*If a student does not have a pencil or pen and wants to borrow one from the teacher, the student will have to hand in their phone (Once the teacher gets the pencil/pen back –student will get their phone back)Classroom Goals:Upon successful completion of this class, students will:Be able to compare, estimate, order, model, and solve problems using rational numbers (which include all positive/negative numbers in the form of: Fractions, decimals, and percentages).Be able to analyze, interpret, and graph data using different forms of representation of the data including charts and tables, including being able to use number lines as well as all four quadrants showing rational numbers. Be able to read, write, solve, and graph simple Algebriac Equations using the Orders of Operation (PEMDAS). Be able to apply 2-D and 3-D properties in solving problems in Euclid Geometry.Be able to solve for simple probability problems.Be able to use a variety of representation, tools, and technology to model mathematical situations and solve meaningful problems.7th graders will be prepared for 8th grade STAAR Test in April. 6th graders take the 6th grade STAAR Test in MayGuidelines for Success: To become successful at this level of Mathematics it takes “PRIDE”:PreparationResponsibilityIntegrityDedicationEffort Classroom Rules:All school/District rules need to be followed.Arrive on time with your own supplies and begin the problems on the board.Keep your hands, feet, and other belongings to yourself.Follow directions the first time.Stay on task during all work times.Cell phones and other electronics (see last page)Activities:POD (Problem of the Day)when entering the classroom – Instructions will be on board to tell them what to do – they will have up to 10 minutes to complete while teacher is in hall welcoming students into class and taking attendance.Large Group Activities Teacher-directed instructionActivities at tables Group Work, Partner Practice, and Independent Practice To be eligible and stay in Pre-ap/TAG Math To be eligible for Pre-ap, returning students must pass the previous year’s STAAR Test and past that year’s math class. To stay in Pre-ap math one must maintain a passing grade throughout the year. If the student has a failing grade at the nine week report card, they may be removed from the class by the school and re-assigned to a regular math class. If a TAG student fails the previous STAAR test or has a failing grade, than parents will be asked to met with teacher and councilor to discuss options which may result in be taken out of TAG for those subjects and be placed into a different class.VII. Grading Policy: This is District policy on the percents (not mine) Tests/Major Projects will be 40% of your grade (There will be at least 3 tests given in a 9week period.) Quizzes and Daily Assignments will be 50% of your grade (Quizzes may or may not be announced) Homework will be 10% of your grade (This must be done or you will be put on a behavior plan) **Semester/Final examination grades will count for 10% Cheating is not tolerated on quizzes and tests. Necessary work must be shown on all assignments, quizzes and tests. The Judson ISD academic honesty policy will be enforced. I will allow students to work together on homework assignments and some class assignments, but each student must turn in the work to receive credit. VIII. Assignments:Class assignments will be collected and/or graded that day, and Homework assignments will be collected and/or graded the following class period (unless told otherwise by the teacher). Homework must be turned in on time and necessary work must be shown to receive full credit ( I will scan and e-mail to all parents that fill out the e-mail information sheet.) District policy states that a student will receive a missing (M) grade for the assignment if failure to turn it in on the date it is due. “M” graded count as a 0%. If I am collecting the assignment to grade myself, I will accept it late, but the grade will be penalized 10% per day, and it MUST be turned in within 3 days to receive any credit (This is a District Policy). If we grade the assignment in class, than it will be 50% off and they have 3 days to turn in for credit. Any assignment that is over 3 days late may not be accepted*. Exception will be if the student has an excused absent (They get 1 day extra for each day out)*District says after 3 days it will be a zero IX. Redoing work: Homework and class assignments (including quizzes) will not be allowed to be redone or corrected for a . higher grade. Only failing tests can be re-taken (under 70%). The student has to make the test up within . one week of the test grade being posted. Re-test will be done during tutoring. DO NOT ASK FOR EXTRA CREDIT WORK – I DO NOT GIVE ANY Quizzes:Quizzes can be given at any time during the class period. They may or may not be announced and will cover material from previous assignments. Quizzes will have a time limit and must be turned in within the specified time to receive credit.Tests:Tests include both vocabulary type tests and problem solving tests and will be announced in advance. Test will be given after completion of each unit. The test will cover the unit that was just completed and possibly previous units. Graded tests may be kept by the teacher. Tutoring: Tutoring will be available: Usually on Tuesday and Thursday from 3:45 to 4:15, Morning tutoring for anyone: Tuesday – Thursday from 7:30 – 8:00 (When I do not have duty)After school tutoring on Monday and Wednesdays will depend on a weekly basis – I will e-mail each week on which day(s) I will be tutoring Progress Reports/GradesDistrict generated progress reports will be sent home about three weeks into each nine-week grading period. You must request your missed assignments the first day you return from your absence.Student Passes:Please take care of water and restroom breaks before coming to class. If an emergency arises, you may request permission to leave class, but please exercise good judgment and be sensible when making requests to leave during class. It is up to the teacher’s discretion whether permission will be given. (School policy is that no-one will be permitted to leave class the first or last 10 minutes of class).Consequences for classroom rules violation: I do not expect to any misbehavior in higher Math classes but If a student violates a rule, he/she may be assigned a consequence. Depending on the frequency and severity of the misbehavior, students may receive one or more of the following consequences:Individual meeting with me and possible change in seating assignmentCall and/or e-mail to parentMandatory parent meeting with me (and possibly an administrator Office referralMandatory parent meeting with me and an administratorClass re-assignmentConsequences for Code of Conduct Violations:If a student breaks a rule that is covered in the student handbook, I must refer the situation to the office for the administrator to make decisions on parent contact, police involvement, and other matters.Cell phones and other electronics:Cell phones and electronics, and earphones must be put away during class (unless instructed differently by the teacher). If any electronical devise not put away, the student will have one warning to put it away or be asked to give to the teacher until the period is over.
