FATAL VEHICLE COLLISION WEST STAR PASS BOULEVARD AND SOUTH GREASEWOOD ROAD

On September 29, 2019, at approximately 4:20 a.m., officers from Operations Division South and the Tucson Fire Department were dispatched to the intersection of West Star Pass Boulevard and South Greasewood Road for a report of a serious-injury collision involving a single vehicle. Upon arrival, Tucson Fire rendered aid to the male driver, identified as 16-year-old Kristiano Roman Yslava Owen. TFD transported Mr. Owen to Banner University Medical Center with lifethreatening injuries. Shortly after arriving at the hospital Mr. Owen was pronounced deceased. The juvenile male passenger suffered minor injuries and was also transported to Banner University Medical Center for a precautionary examination. The passenger was wearing a seatbelt, Mr. Owen was not.

Detectives with the Tucson Police Traffic Investigations Unit responded to continue the investigation. According to witness interviews, Mr. Owen was driving southbound on Greasewood Road at a high rate of speed. After he passed Star Pass Boulevard, the vehicle drifted into the northbound lanes of Greasewood Road and struck the block wall on the east side of the roadway. The vehicle came to a rest on the wall foundation.

Interviews and roadway evidence determined that speed was a factor in this collision. Mr. Owen's next of kin was notified of the incident.

Detectives are continuing their investigation. No charges or citations have been issued at this time.
