Facilities ReportVince Smyth briefly went over his role as the University’s contract manager between Chartwells and the University. At the meetings he likes to inform the council of any changes that have been made to the contract since the last meeting and stated that there is no major contractual changes/issues to report. Vince also mentioned that the Chick-fil-A has currently completed its first full year of operation and that they have added menu items such as milkshakes and breakfast as the facility has become familiar with the basic menu items. The Chick-fil-A is a Chick-fil-A Express which offers a limited menu as compared to a full menu like you would find at one of their off campus restaurants. He also mentioned that the Pita-Pit in the Clubhouse is now in its fourth month of operation, which opened in Summer B. Another point that Vince had mentioned was that at a recent legislation session it was passed that meal plans for students were now sales tax exempt. He alluded to the wording of the legislation that the meal plans had to be purchased from the University. As of the beginning of the current semester of the meeting (Fall 2014) the meal plans for students have always been purchased through Chartwells. As a result of twice weekly meetings with Chartwells an agreement was reached for the University to sell meal plans to save the students sales tax starting in the Spring 2015 semester.Operational ReportDanielle Tarangelo started off with new programs that have been started by Chartwells since the last meeting. They have started the “We Appreciate You” or WAY program which is at each of the units the manager is to select, at random, one customer in which their meal will be free during the lunch time hours. Another program that was started in conjunction with the Student Government is a 10% off discount for Veterans. On Blue and Grey Wednesdays there is now a $0.25 discount on coffee in Outtakes. There is a $0.10 discount on soda refills with a reusable cup in all venues except the Boathouse. “Munchies,” Chartwells’ monthly newsletter was started in September of this year (2014) and it contains information on dining units, announcing monthly specials, and did-you-know facts. Also, she gave us an update that they are doing Fall Semester surveys and that they are currently at 900 completed which was the amount they had in the Spring Semester; accordingly, they will be exceeding the Spring Semester total for the current Semester. Dave Jordan retouched on what was said earlier by Vince Smyth about the new process of purchasing meal plans for students. Meals plans sold for the Fall Semester were up 12% over last Fall; 2,400+ meals plans were sold in the Fall 2014 Semester. Also, he mentioned that Chick-fil-A added milkshakes and breakfast to the menu. Chick-fil-A is doing about $7,500 a day in business. Pita-Pit is doing daily sales in the range of $4,500-$5,000 which most of the business is during the night hours. Additionally, daily sales for other locations are: Starbucks $5,000, Alumni Outtakes $4,400, Jamba-Juice $1,200, Boathouse $2,800, Student Union Outtakes $1,700, Quiznos $1,000, Chicken Grill $1,700, Papa Johns $650, Coyote Jack’s $600.Korey Konopasek went on to inform the council that Jamba-Juice put up new menu boards and also now have hand held menus. They were trying a milkshake machine similar to the one at the Clubhouse in Coyote Jack’s which has minimal sales and believes that the machine will be pulled from that location. They are working with the Boathouse to reorganize the structure of the kitchen to improve the ticket times during the lunch rush. They hope to aim for an average top-end ticket time of 20 minutes. A question arose to whether a national restaurant such as Chili’s could replace the Bouthouse and it was determined that such a restaurant would not come onto campus due to a sales volume issue. An employee contest will begin at Chick-fil-A to start up selling the milkshakes to make it aware to customers that they are now serving milkshakes. Starbucks will be adding a Turbo Chef which is essentially an industrial microwave that will allow them to serve hot sandwiches and warm pastries. Ozzies in the Osprey Fountains has had some improved product placement recently. Hippo Popsicles from St. Augustine were placed in the Pita-Pit location and are selling. Also, Chartwells will be talking with Backyard Popsicles, created by an UNF alumnus that wishes to bring their product onto campus. Table touches were done at the Osprey Café and the consensus was that the students want more fruit variety. Better menu options were also an issue and the chef has implemented Sunday fried chicken night. Additionally, part of the salad bar will rotate from week to week featuring such items as humus one week and then antipasto the next.Emerging/Other IssuesNone ReportedFuture Meeting(s)The next meeting will be scheduled for the Spring Semester in the month of February. ................
