|Job Purpose Statement |

|To provide assistance to the catering team, through cleaning and maintaining a hygienic working environment to a high standard for the Surrey |

|Sports Park’s (SSP) bar/restaurant, Starbucks, events and elite teams. This role also assists in the receipt of deliveries, storage of goods, |

|distribution of stock and completion of cleaning schedules. |

|The role provides effective general support to the chef team and as such, is an essential element in the department’s operational function. |

|Problem Solving, Accountability and Dimensions of the role |

|The post covers a range of well-defined routine daily tasks which are governed by set departmental procedures and guidelines/best practice. Due to|

|the repetitive nature of these tasks, little instruction is required, although instructions are provided by the Chefs where appropriate. The post |

|holder is required to carry out a basic level of prioritisation of tasks, for example ensuring that required equipment is cleaned for service. |

|The post holder is expected to deal with very frequent and similar situations and problems, which due to the limited solutions available, require |

|only basic decision making. Decision making may involve making judgements on which tasks need completing first or which is the most appropriate |

|process to follow. The post holder is expected to clarify work instructions as necessary and to raise concerns or refer more complex |

|issues/problems to the Head Chef or Sous Chef for resolution where appropriate. |

|The post holder is expected, after the relevant training, to use equipment in the kitchen including dishwasher, ovens, grills, fryers, microwaves |

|and ranges. The post holder is expected to comply with clear and established procedures and health and safety regulations regarding the use of any|

|equipment and to comply with relevant food safety legislation/guidelines with regards to the safe preparation of food. Errors in judgement or |

|failure to follow procedure could result in the contamination of food, the contraction of foodborne illnesses, damaged equipment or the personal |

|safety of the post holder and their team being placed at risk. |

|This post impacts across the SSP bar/restaurant/Starbucks in the provision of its service. Poor service or food quality may impact upon the smooth |

|operation of the facility and its reputation. The post holder does not supervise any other members of staff or hold any responsibility for |

|budgets. |

|The Surrey Sports Park’s bar/restaurant boasts a 70-seat bar, 2-day conference rooms and 2 activity rooms for large banquets of up to 250 people. |

|The bar/restaurant offers a wide selection of healthy, balanced food which aims to support the positive lifestyles of the SSP guests. |

|This job purpose reflects the core activities of the post. As the Department/Faculty and the post-holder develop, there will inevitably be some |

|changes to the duties for which the post is responsible, and possibly to the emphasis of the post itself. Surrey Sports Park expects that the |

|post-holder will recognise this and will adopt a flexible approach to work. This could include undertaking relevant training where necessary. |
