Job Description

Post Title: Barista

Faculty/Unit: Estates & Facilities

Job purpose:

To provide a professional, friendly and efficient service to all customers at the College. Providing a customer focused service with in the new Starbucks outlet, whilst providing drive of the introduction of the new brand. Whilst also, working in compliance to College policies, ‘best practice’, and current legislation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the sole running of the Starbucks outlet on weekends.

• Serving of hot and cold beverages, hot and cold food and snacks, to all customers, including commercial cliental.

• Contribute to the departmental goals for increasing sales and improving profit by actively up-selling.

• To demonstrate a positive, enthusiastic, committed and flexible attitude towards customers and other team members, recognising the importance and benefits of effective team working, whilst also being able to work independently.

• Till work, including being responsible for all cash handling, cashless/card payments and basic maintenance.

• Keeping all work areas and equipment clean and tidy and the cleaning down of the food preparation areas.

• To be responsible for clearing away tables in the dining area and maintaining high levels of cleanliness

• To ensure cleanliness of the Starbucks outlet, equipment and storage/kitchen area, within the Inspire Centre.

• Assist with the preparation, cooking, presentation and serving of food.

• Maintain good housekeeping standards in line with Health and Safety Regulations, the Food Hygiene Act and Self Assured Catering.

• Contribute to the smooth and efficient running of the Catering Unit and working to targets.

• Input into team discussion regarding best team practice.

• Any other duties commensurate with the grading of the post.

Holidays

The basic holiday entitlement is 25 days plus 8 statutory days of which up to the equivalent of 5 days can be directed by management. The holiday year is from September to August.

Health & Safety

The post holder is required to maintain and promote a positive attitude to health and safety and to comply with and ensure compliance with health and safety codes of practice for the safety and wellbeing of learners and staff.
