John Drugan Rock Stars! SISD news!

For the 11th year in a row, Socorro Independent School District’s counseling programs have won the Counselors Reinforcing Excellence for Students in Texas (CREST) award.

Eighteen SISD campuses were recognized by the Texas School Counselor Association for the 2015-2016 CREST award. That is eight more schools than last year’s record breaking number of 10, said Tammi Mackeben, SISD’s Director of Guidance and Counseling.

“Since the inception of the award 11 years ago, SISD has received more awards than any district in the state of Texas, per capita,” Mackeben said. “It is so exciting and a true testament to the quality and compassion of SISD school counselors.”

Congratulations to Ms. Arellano, Ms. Aldana, and Ms. Rodriquez !

What’s up in Ms. Marusich’s Class?

We have already finished the 3rd 9 weeks! Doesn’t time fly by?

These are some of the many things we have been working on:

• How to Eat a Guava (memoir)

• Oranges by Gary Soto (poetry)

• Raisin in the Sun Lorraine Hansberry (drama play)

• How to find the theme in fictional work

• Word of the Day quizzes on Friday’s

This nine weeks we will be integrating all types of genres and analyze, use reading strategies, and decipher critical information.

Please make sure that your child is working on reading strategies as we will continue this throughout the nine weeks until state assessments. Thank you for your continued support!
