June 25, 2020Hello APTA Tennessee Members: Back in March 2020, Governor Lee passed a mandate to help us as PTs and other health care providers to provide telehealth services for our most vulnerable patients such as in pediatrics and in the elderly population in the state. We have expressed our opinions, spoken to our lobbyists/legislators, and we have achieved Telehealth visits approved from most all of our insurance payers in the state of Tennessee. We have had most commercial insurances extend the deadline for Telehealth visits provided by PTs to the end of August and other payers have added it permanently to their benefits. The mandate for those visits by the Governor’s Executive Order only extends through June 30, 2020. As it stands now and without an extension of time given by the Governor beyond June 30, 2020, we as PTs cannot provide PT services via Telehealth past this date. We will need to reach out further to our legislators and to the Governor’s Office to see if we can get an extension of Telehealth services for our profession.Estie Harris and Lou Alsobrooks of the Harris-Frazier Firm, our APTA Tennessee Lobbyists are working on a variety of solutions?to get this resolved. They have sought out all resources at the state level to get answers regarding this topic. Stayed tuned. They are having a follow up call hopefully this week with the staff of the Department of Health Related Boards and their legislative liaison. So again stay tuned..... The Executive Orders have been requested to be extended. Thanks,AlanAlan Meade, PT, DScPT, MPHChapter President APTA Tennessee ................
