Nd Annual Steel Raw Materials Europe

Platts SBB 2nd Annual Steel Raw Materials Europe

Thursday 27 ? Friday 28 September 2012, Hilton Hotel, Amsterdam

The changing political landscape in Europe has created more economic uncertainty, resulting in subdued demand for steel and blast furnace closures. This has seen raw materials diverted into Asian markets but has not deterred European iron ore and metallurgical coal projects from forging ahead.

Meanwhile, the world is watching China's economy closely to see if the Middle Kingdom will continue its role as the major destination for global commodities. Steel production in China has rebounded in 2012 after slowing the previous year but most end-user markets remain weak and there is no sign from Beijing of further stimulus measures.

Raw materials pricing continues its rapid evolution with the move to ever-shorter contract terms and the establishment of China's new iron ore trading platform.

On the supply side, an avalanche of new iron ore supply is due to hit seaborne markets over the next 3-5 years, from traditional suppliers in Australia and Brazil, as well as from emerging producers in Africa, Mongolia, Indonesia and elsewhere.

What will this mean for long-term raw materials prices and pricing mechanisms? What is the role for European steel making raw materials producers? Can China continue to prop up the demand side? How realistic is it that projects will meet their timelines and how are they being financed?

This year's conference will feature presentations by leading players in iron ore, metallurgical coal, coke, alloys and scrap including:
