We know and understand when each section is due and that it is the student’s responsibility to turn work in on time. We understand that the STEM fair will be on Friday, December 9, 2016.PARENT SIGNATURE: ___________________ STUDENT SIGNATURE: ___________________Parent/Guardian phone number: ______________________________ orParent/Guardian e-mail address: __________________________________________________Preferred method of contact (circle one): phoneemailDear 6th Grade Parents,Your child is about to embark on a great mission… a STEM FAIR (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math)! As science and technology grow in importance in the 21st century, it is imperative that we help to build a strong foundation for our growing thinkers. In this STEM Fair, your child will investigate a topic of their choice that sparks their interest. STEM Fairs are a great way for our young scientists and engineers to express themselves while investigating a topic of their choice.Henderson Hammock will be holding a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Fair on Friday, December 9, 2016. All students in grades 6-8 will be required to participate. 8th grade students will be able to complete a project utilizing the scientific method (a typical Science Fair Project) or to analyze data in a mathematical project or by using the engineering design process to build a product or create a technological program. From now until December 9, your child will design, test, analyze, and present a project that uses scientific methods or the engineering design process to solve a problem. The sky’s the limit! This packet includes all of the grading rubrics, guidelines, and recommendations that your child will need in order to be successful in the STEM Fair. This project will comprise many grades over the course of two quarters. It is imperative that your child completes this project and meets all deadlines.Although parents are encouraged to offer emotional support and reminders, I must ask that you please allow the students to do the projects by themselves. One of the most important lessons that we are working to teach the 8th graders is that they are reaching the age where they are responsible for their own grades and actions. Please do not hesitate to contact me at dnichols@ with any questions or concerns. If your child is struggling at home with their project, please encourage them to e-mail me. E-mails go straight to my cell phone, so they are the fastest way to reach me on any day of the week.I look forward to learning from my students’ STEM investigations!Sincerely,_______________________Mr. Nichols, 6th Grade Science TeacherImportant Dates/ Due Dates:SeptemberMonday, September 26Decide if you will be completing a project using the Scientific Method or Engineering Design Challenge.
