Charting

Chart Builder

Access Chart Builder one of two ways:

1. Using the Screening and Analytics tab located at the top of the page.

2. Through the left-hand links on any company profile.

The Chart Builder enables you to easily create Daily Market Charts, Financial Period charts, and Shares Traded Analyses. Charts are fully customizable according to chart template, time frame, various annotations, technical analysis indicators, and historical estimates.

Daily Market Charts

View daily stock price moves for companies, market indices, custom indices, interest rates, and foreign exchange rates. For companies, you can also chart TEV, Market Cap, and trailing and forward multiples. To understand a company's stock fluctuations add technical analytics, Key Developments (annotations), and historical estimates.

Add companies to your chart by typing your ticker, CUSIP, ISIN, or SEDOL into the Add Identifier textbox. Multiple identifiers can be added when separated by commas. If you are unsure of a company's ticker/CUSIP/ISIN/SEDOL, search for the company name by clicking the Advanced Search button next to the Add Identifiers textbox.

Ticker symbols and indices are displayed above the chart for easy access, adaptation, and removal.

Identifier Lookup

The Identifier Lookup, in addition to the company search feature, will allow you to add market indices, interest rates, foreign exchange rates, and constituents from your saved lists within Capital IQ. You can also use the Identifier Lookup to create custom indices. Click the Add as Index checkbox at the bottom of the Identifier Lookup window once you have selected numerous securities to create the custom index. If the Add Individually checkbox is selected, make sure to deselect it to prevent adding each constituent to your chart as a separate series.

When adding trading items, make sure to specify if you'd like to add them as an individual series or as an index.

Chart Options

Click the Chart Options button for chart customization.

Advanced Options

Time Frame and Features

Click the time frame links at above the chart to quickly change the chart's time frame. Use the "Custom" link to access the Chart Options window and specify a custom time frame.

Note: You can only perform a Shares Traded Analysis for one company at a time, whereas Daily Market and Financial Period charts allow you to add up to 16 different series. You will be notified if you exceed either threshold.

Shares Traded Analysis

A Shares Traded Analysis creates a histogram displaying the volume of shares traded for one company within given price ranges.

Financial Period Charts

Financial Period Charts allow you to chart any financials/multiples/estimates on a quarterly, annual, or LTM basis. The chart can take the form of a line or bar chart and can also be combination of both.

Use the Chart Options button or "Custom" link to adjust the time frame or the size/number of bins.

Note: There is a limit of 50 bins and the minimum size of each is .02 currency units.

You will notice each security that you have added has a color-coded button above the chart. Depress the buttons to select the series for which you would like to add Annotations, Technical Analysis, or Historical Estimates.

Note: Leaving all buttons deselected will apply the option(s) to all companies.

You can use the arrow at the end of the button to pull in volume, adjust the stock prices historically for dividends, remove the series from the chart, or change the axis. When charting companies, you can use the left and right axis dropdown menus above the security buttons to select the metric you would like to chart. In addition to share pricing, you also have the option to chart the TEV, Market Cap, trailing multiples, and if estimates are part of your account configuration, historical forward multiples.

Charting Mode

Use the Charting Mode radio buttons to toggle between Daily Market, Financial Periods, or Shares Traded Analysis charts for the same company.

In order to customize your chart, use the Chart Options button to access additional options that apply to the entire chart.

Time Frame: Use the options from the dropdown or specify a date range.

Currency: Specify the currency and conversion method for your chart.

Restatement Type: Specify which filing to use for the chart. The chart will default to the latest filings available, which will include any restatements or reclassifications of financials.

Frequency: Choose between quarterly or annual statements or view an LTM Periods chart.

Line (Left Y-Axis)/Bar (Right Y-Axis): You can choose to view the financials either as a line graph or a bar chart. You can also incorporate a combination of both for different items. Select a data point from the left and then click either the Line or Bar arrow to add the data points to the chart.

Saved Charts and Templates

Scroll left and right to view more options.

Select Save Chart to save charts and templates.

The Saved Chart option captures the securities that were on the chart when it was saved. The Saved templates option will automatically replace the security on the chart while retaining all other customization. You can access your Saved Charts and Saved Templates at the top of the Chart Builder page or by scrolling over the Screening & Analytics tab, going to Charting and clicking on Saved Charts/Templates.
