FUN STUFF to ReadInteresting “Stuff” about SCIENCE, Inventions, Strange Facts, Mysteries, Accidents, Human Oddities, Fallacies, Superstitions, Unusual Phenomenon, Extraordinary Events, Curious Customs, Strange Secrets, Odd Deaths, Weird Myths, Absurdities, Imponderables, Incredible Coincidences, Gross Happenings, Misinformation, Ridiculous World Records, and LOTS More!Note that this is an “open unit” (one without a fully developed set of lesson plans). Teachers may begin with these provided materials and then continue with their own creative ideas to fit their specific classroom curriculum goals.Sometimes kids just need to read about FUN STUFF—with no other motive than to simply enjoy learning new and interesting information (although serious discussions could discreetly occur—especially in science areas). The books below are a collection of “different” and exciting topics of that children enjoy reading or hearing about. The adult leader may read aloud portions of selected books OR students may choose their own items. One teaching suggestion is to read 2-3 sections from Accidents May Happen: Fifty Inventions Discovered by Mistake or from a book such as Some Days Nothing Goes Right (just to rouse interest), and then challenge students to find something even more unusual or bizarre in the remaining books. These books are housed in the center’s open shelving.
