The First Year Experience is a comprehensive yearlong effort to acclimate students to college life and enhance their chances for success. The Director provides collaborative leadership for the strategic preparation, implementation, and appraisal of the services and activities to advance student academic and transfer success. The FYE Director helps to oversee the development and organization of specific extra-curricular programs including special events for first year students. In addition, the FYE Director works collaboratively with the Student Engagement and Student Activities staff to coordinate social, athletic, cultural and community service activities to enhance the total quality of campus life for students, faculty, and staff. The director will work with a variety of partners on and off campus to provide support to students to address barriers to their successful completion of their college program. QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Master's Degree in Counseling, Education, Student Affairs, or related field is required. A minimum of three (3) years’ experience working with students in an educational setting is required. Management and administrative experience required. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in working with academically under prepared students in a college setting. The applicant should have excellent communication skills and be able to work effectively in a highly visible area assisting students, faculty, and colleagues. The Director engages in data-based decision-making and collaboration with staff and faculty to facilitate efforts across the college to increase retention and student success rates of first-time freshman and transfer students. The FYE Director helps to oversee the development and organization of specific extra-curricular programs including special events for first year students. In addition, the FYE Director works collaboratively with the Student Engagement and Student Activities staff to coordinate social, athletic, cultural and community service activities to enhance the total quality of campus life for students, faculty, and staff. The director will work with a variety of partners on and off campus to provide support to students to address barriers to their successful completion of their college program. WORK PERFORMED (Essential Duties and Responsibilities): 1. Provides vision, strategic direction, and accountability for developing programs and implementing high-impact practices and services that support undergraduates' academic transition, engaging first-year experiences, retention, and success.2. Provides leadership of the first-year experience, working with the faculty to create learning communities and other programs focused on first-year college students.3. Develops, administers, and analyzes annual assessments of the first-year experience and student retention programs. Collaborates with college leadership to identify metrics as an indicator of student progression and retention. Develops and evaluates statistical, analytical, and narrative reports used for decision-making and plan improvement.4. Builds and strengthen relationships within the college to provide a comprehensive first-year experience for first-year students aligned with Rust College’s mission and goals, providing plans and strategies for retention and progression of first-year students.5. Develop a campus-wide first-year experience committee, serves on other committees, and collaborates with others in student and academic affairs as assigned.6. Ensures the preparation and dissemination of materials promoting the first year, programs and activities that which support student success and retention initiatives.7. Participates in grant writing activities and assists in securing external financing to support initiatives.8. Develop, conduct, and communicate results from regular assessments of programs and services provided through student activities and events.9. Assist in the development and implementation of cutting-edge orientation and first-year-experience programming for incoming new and transfer students.10. Provides outreach to all students regarding student life, supplying information, ideas, and technical and logistical assistance. Trains and mentors the Student leaders within the Student Government.11. Plan and locate student and professional development workshops, trainings, and conference.12. Supervise, train, evaluate, and provide development for professional, paraprofessional and student staff.13. Coordinate event registration process: plan and coordinate multi-complex campus events and programs including fiscal advertisement and oversight and negotiating vendor contracts for campus events and event calendar maintenance.14. Collaborates with other departments in the division, as well as academics, athletics, and alumni.15. Other job-related duties as assigned.Supervisory Responsibilities: The director will participate in making final decision on evaluating employee performance; hiring new employees; disciplinary actions; makes a final decision on scheduling employee work hours; makes the final decision on coaching and counseling; training; provides recommendations on handling employee grievances and complaints, and makes the final decision on granting time off.Qualifications - Education and Experience:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
