Editor's letter

Dear Readers,

Welcome to the third issue of al manhal for 2017. Investment is a common thread that runs through much of what you will find inside this issue. PDO doesn't just earn a great deal of money for Oman through its oil and gas activities; it also invests significantly in the future of both the industry and wider Omani society.

One of the Company's recent investments to hit the headlines is the stunning renewable energy project known as `Miraah'. Once complete, this giant solar steam generating facility ? entirely encased in glass ? will provide most of the steam PDO needs to run its thermal enhanced oil recovery (EOR) scheme at Amal. We repor t on the latest developments as Miraah moves from dream to reality.

There are few better examples of the power of PDO's social investment programme than Shaleem Health Centre, which has been steadily expanded over the years and now provides a wide range of frontline medical services to residents of the southern Omani town of Shaleem and its surrounding area.We take a look inside the facility and chart the history of PDO's financial contributions to it.

Another massive PDO investment commitment centres on the ambitious plan to create 50,000 new job openings for young Omanis in sectors outside oil and gas. If you fit our typical reader profile of a college or university student, you may be particularly interested in finding out more about this. If so, turn to page 8 where our story begins.

Fishing has for centuries been an important part of Oman's culture and economy; and thanks to government investment the industry is adding new infrastructure which will help it to flourish throughout future generations. Our centrespread feature takes a colourful look at an ancient profession getting something of a modern makeover.

Last but not least, we have another in our special series of people profiles marking 50 years of Omani oil exports and 80 years of PDO.This time around we speak to Asya Al Busiady, a former stalwart of the Company's human resources team.

We hope you enjoy reading this edition of al manhal and, as always, if you have any comments, questions or feedback we'd love to hear from you.You can find all the relevant contact details on this page.

Regards,

Al Manhal
