What do they think it will be about?What type of text is it fiction or non-fiction.Who do they think Zak is? What is a vet?Encourage your child to read the words independently- (this level of text should be accessible to all). At the end can they answer some questions about the text?Children could watch Ferne and Rory’s Vet Tales on BBC IPlayerThis is an episode about a dog going to the vets: need lots of things to be happy and healthy watch what do pets need? Reading: Jack gets a Pet (see separate document on school website)Compare this book to yesterday’s story. Explain that this is non-fiction as it is about a boy- It is telling us information about how to look after our pet.If you have a pet at home then have a go at taking part in their daily care e.g. Feeding, grooming. If you don’t then you could use a cuddly toy to learn how to pick up or handle it correctly. Why not practise stroking the animal and how to be gentle. This week you are going to have an important job of recording the weather. Explain that we are going to use a weather chart and each day we are going to draw a small symbol (picture) to represent what the weather is like on that day.Have a look at the large weather chart in the separate document called ‘raining again’ (found on the school website). Can the children recognise and read the days of the week down the side of the table? Discuss what the different symbols in the chart represent.Challenge Activity: Have a go at creating your own weather chart for the week. Use your own symbols to represent the different types of weather. Each day have a look at the weather outside and record it in your own table. Have a go at predicting what you think the weather will be like tomorrow. Why not create a sky scanner like the one in the activities below- this might help you to see what the weather is like each day. Challenge extension: Watch ‘Frozen- In Summer’ Discuss with your child what they think will happen to Olaf when it gets warm. Support your child to fill up ice cube trays or plastic containers and freeze.
