o Know which glassware measure volume accurately and which ones are only approximate

o Know the term meniscus and how to find the volume

• Be able to convert between Fahrenheit and Celsius

• Know the temperature of boiling water, ice, room temperature, and body temperature in both Fahrenheit and Celsius

• Be able to change very large or small numbers into scientific notation

• Make sure you have answered all the questions in the lab manual – I might use some of them on the quiz

Organic Molecules:

• Be able to distinguish between a protein, lipid, carbohydrate and nucleic acid

• Give examples of proteins, carbohydrates & lipids found in our diet

• Correctly match the various reagents with the type of organic substance being tested

• Based on given lab results determine if a substance contains reducing sugars, starches, proteins and/or fats

• Using figure 1 & 2 be able to identify the shape and arrangement from a drawing of bacteria

• Be able to identify structures of an animal cell and a plant cell from diagrams

• Know that we use methylene blue to stain animal cells & iodine to stain plant cells

Diffusion and Osmosis

• Know the meaning of terms solute, solvent, selectively permeable membrane, osmosis, diffusion

• Learn the fate of animal and plant cells placed in isotonic, hypertonic or hypotonic solutions. Learn scientific terms for the processes

• Why do plant and animal cells behave differently in response to some solutions?

• What happens to an Elodea cell placed in water, in 0.9% NaCl and 10% NaCl?

• Be able to apply your knowledge to practical situations

• Go through review questions. I may use some of them in the quiz
