In June of 2017 Jivamukti Yoga Jersey City teamed up with the Jersey City HDSID to create the first ever Yoga Fest in Jersey City. It happened on the weekend of the summer solstice, also known as International Yoga day. Starting at 7am and ending around 5pm, more than 500 yogis participated in a street event consisting of 108 Sun Salutations, Meditation, Music, and a yoga class with a well know international yoga instructor. In addition, there were over 30 vendor booths with a large variety of offerings from henna tattoos to healthy beverages and a selection of yoga clothes and paraphernalia. Many of the yoga studios in Jesey City participated in the spirit of unity and there were several thousand onlookers thoughout the day. The vision of the event is to expand in the coming years to make it a real destination and evolve it into a 3-day event.

Yoga Studio Participation

The theme of the Yoga Fest is to honor unity through yoga as well as a celebration of the divirsity and wide range of yoga offerings in Jersey City. The first portion of the yoga fest begins with 108 Sun Salutations. We invite participation from studios around Jersey City and their instructors to assist in this ritual of honoring the longest day of the year.

In 2019, we will be adding additional programs leading up to and after the event.

Vendor Booths

In 2018, Yoga Fest Jersey City had approximately 30 vendors with booths located at the Grove Street Plaza. In 2019, vendors will be moved into the Pedestrian Zone of Newark Avenue. This will allows for better integration between street activities and vendors. Products and services must be yoga related and can include body work, henna tattoos, yoga supplies, jewelry, books, wellness and personal training. All products and services must be vegan and eco friendly. Please refer to the vendor letter for further details.

Vegan Food Trucks

In 2018, very little was offered in the way of food and drink. Expanding the event into the second pedestrian block will allow ample space for food and beverage outlets. All food products should be vegan to promote the yogic tradtion of non-violence. Green and sustainable products and containers are highly encouraged.
