HYBRID SUMMER READING PROGRAM

July 13th ? August 19th

The 2022 summer reading program will be both online and in person The online portion of the summer reading program will be available through READsquared. All you have to do is register! You can track your reading and complete self-guided activities to earn points for great prizes all summer long with our three age groups:

Summer Reading Kickoff: July 13th

Join us in person to celebrate the start of Tuxedo Park Library's summer reading program: Oceans of Possibilities! Kickoff Day is in person with staggered events in order to maintain the CDC guidelines.

Summer Reading Registration: All Day, ages 0-13 Ms. Kara will be available all day to help register your child for summer reading and pick up reading log materials. Save a Sea Turtle: 1pm-2:30pm, ages 0-10 Kids will be able to save and adopt their own stuffed baby sea turtle! A certificate of adoption will be provided. Limit one sea turtle per person. Prize Wheel: 4pm-5:30pm, ages 10-13 Older kids can spin the wheel to earn a prize. Prizes include: books, crafts, or treats! Limit one prize per person.

*Logging reading for the Poetic Piranhas teen program, set for ages 14-18, will be exclusively through the READsquared online program.*

noted. Register on the library's website calendar or call the library. Once registered for a virtual program, an email will be sent to

you with information on how to join in via Zoom shortly before the program. All programs are subject to change. Pre-recorded programs can be seen on the library's Facebook page or YouTube channel.

Chair Yoga, Series of Six Sessions

Mondays, June 27th, July 11th, 18th, 25th, August 1st and 8th at 10:15am Presented by Tatyana Kochergina, Yoga Educator, Health and Balance Coach Join Tatyana as she guides you through simple, relaxing stretches that help strengthen your core, alleviate stress, and enhance your mobility. Your body will thank you. Registration required.

2022 Adult Summer Reading Bingo Raffle

Tuesday, July 5th - Monday, August 22nd

Pick up your Summer Reading Bingo card at the circulation desk today! Attend a library program, read a book, listen to an audiobook and or complete other library related tasks to fill out your Summer Reading Bingo Card. For every Bingo row completed, you will be entered into the raffle. Submit your Bingo boards by the drawing on Monday, August 22nd at 2pm for first, second, and third prizes. No registration necessary. Open to TPL cardholders 18 years and older.

Fans of Fiction Book Club In-Person and via Zoom simultaneously

Thursdays, July 7th, August 4th, and September 1st at 7pm July's book selection is How Beautiful We Were by Imbolo Mbue. Moderated by Tris Gates-Bonarius Come find your next favorite book, explore a new genre, and enjoy conversation with fellow booklovers. Book discussions are held the first Thursday of the month. Upon registration, copies in various formats will be available to check out. Registration required.

Open Game Days

Tuesdays, July 12th through August 30th From 1pm - 4pm

Why should kids have all the summer fun? Drop into the library on Tuesdays between 1pm and 4pm for table games including Chess, Scrabble, Boggle, Bananagrams and more. Plus, we're air-conditioned, so it's a Win-Win! No registration necessary.

Too Much Zucchini Is Never Enough!

Thursday, July 21st at 7pm Presented by Barbara Sikorsky, Local Foodie, and Zucchini Enthusiast Think you have enough recipes to handle the inevitable influx of summer zucchini? Think again! Barbara will show you several recipes that you can add to your zucchini repertoire. Prepare to feast! Registration required.

History of the Jersey Shore

Thursday, July 28th at 7pm Presented by Kevin Woyce, Author, Lecturer, and Photographer Join author and photographer Kevin Woyce for a colorful tour of New Jersey's coastal history, from the long-ago days of lighthouses and shipwrecks to the founding of today's most popular summer resorts. The Beatles - 50 years Later

Thursday, August 11th at 7pm Presented by Barry Wiesenfeld, Award-winning Musician, Author, and Professor of Music at Ramapo College Join us as we explore the phenomenon that was The Beatles, one of the most transforming entities of 20th century music that changed the course of popular music forever. Learn about their growth, originality, musical innovations and lyric depth. We will explore what made them unique and why their music enjoys such longevity. Registration required.

Thursday, August 18th at 7pm Presented by Nadine France, Paper Artist

While origami is the Japanese art of paper folding, paper craft is the art of making things from paper. Join Nadine as she teaches you the basic skills and techniques needed for crafting. At the end of the class not only will you be a paper crafter, you'll have a beautiful work of paper art as well. All supplies included, registration required.

Find your voice at the la la library by signing up for a library card! New cardholders will be entered in a library themed raffle. Already a TPL patron? Stop in to check something out this month to also be entered into the raffle. The winner will be announced the first week in October.

Take and Make Craft Kits

A new Take and Make craft kit will be available to pick up each month. Instructions, plus all materials you will need, will be included. An instructional video by Ms. Kara will also be posted to our Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube pages as a visual guide. Crafts intended for ages 10 and up. No registration necessary.

Guess the Goldfish

July 13th - August 19th Drop-in We love a good guessing game! Take a guess at how many goldfish crackers are in the fishbowl at the circulation desk and whoever has the closest guess will win the lot. The winner will be announced the last week in August. The fun is open to all ages! No registration necessary.

Volunteer Reads Program

Need community service hours? It is easy to earn hours this summer with the Volunteer Reads Program by reading a book and writing a short review. Each 100 pages you read will equal 1 hour of volunteering. Email Ms. Kara at kgemian@ for the program guidelines if you are interested.

Bullet Journal Club

Wednesdays, 6pm-7:30pm July 13th, August 31st, September 14th and 28th Ages 12-18 Join the Bullet Journal Club! A bullet journal can be a planner, a diary, or anything else you can imagine! This in person craft club will be held once a month in July and August and twice a month throughout the school year. You do not need to attend every session. All materials will be provided, registration required.

Come Paint the Sea with Me

Wednesday, July 27th at 6pm Ages 8-12 Presented by Danielle Lafayette, NYS certified Art Teacher Through color mixing and application of acrylic paint to canvas, students will create an image of the sea and will then be able to add fish, dolphins, sea shells or any other objects found at the beach. All materials for this workshop will be provided. Registration required.

Good Thyme Cooking Club

Wednesday, August 17th at 6pm Ages 10 and up Presented by Nancy Kaufer The Good Thyme Cooking club is back! Learn how to make some delicious beach themed treats on your own that are sure to impress your friends and family. Registration required.

STEM Workshop

Wednesday, August 10th at 4pm Ages 10 and up Stretch your scientific muscles by completing two ocean themed STEM projects with Ms. Kara including a make your own crystal coral reef. Registration required.

A Splash of Magic

Thursday, July 14th at 4pm Ages 4-12 Presented by Conrad Cologne, Family Entertainer Join us for our first Oceans of Possibilities event! Explore the seven seas and oceans deep during this highly interactive family experience that includes captivating stories, a ship full of magic and fun, and lots of participation. Registration required.

Library Treasure Hunt

July 18th - 23rd Drop-in Ages 2 and up X marks the spot in this treasure hunt! Decorate a pirate hat in the children's room, grab a treasure hunt sheet, and explore the library to collect all the clues. Return your sheet to the circulation desk for a small prize. No registration necessary.

High Seas Jamboree

Wednesday, July 20th at 4pm Ages 0-8 Ahoy matey! Swim on over to the library for a special pirate and mermaid themed party. Grab your eye patch, peg-leg, or glittery tails and dress up for an adventurous time on the high seas. This event includes stories, a craft, and a snack. Registration required.

Children's Author Visit and Book Signing with Nancy Viau

Saturday, July 23rd at 11am Ages 0-8

There is nothing like a Summer beach day! Come along as children's author Nancy Viau reads her picture book Today is a Beach Day! and leads a small craft. This lively rhyming read-aloud tale will have everyone clamoring for a day at the beach as this family builds sandcastles, plays in the waves, and hunts for seashells. Nancy will sign books after the reading. Books will be available for purchase at the event or online. Registration required.

WEEK August 1st - 6th

Baby Shark Preschool Story Time

Tuesday, August 2nd at 11am Ages 0-4

Grab your littlest fishies and join Ms. Kara for a special Baby Shark story time that includes books, bubbles, movement, and music. Registration required.

Great White Story Time

Wednesday, August 3rd at 4pm Ages 0-8 Learn about sharks through both Fiction and nonfiction stories, create an artistic likeness of a great white, and take a bite out of a delicious snack. Registration required.

Kid's Craft: Biting Shark Puppet

Thursday, August 4th Drop-in Ages 3-8 Stop in to pick up a biting shark puppet craft to take home. All supplies will be provided. No registration necessary, while supplies last.

Move and Groove with Miss Jolie

Thursday, August 11th at 4pm Ages 3-8 Miss Jolie is back with her classic fun 40-minute interactive music and movement program for the littles. Registration required.

Summer Reading Finale

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

A Library program that encourages all Tuxedo families and caregivers to read 1,000 books with their young children before they enter kindergarten. Families who start reading aloud to their children at birth help to strengthen their language skills and build their vocabulary.

HOLIDAY STORY TIME

July 6th, August 24th, and September 7th at 4pm Ages 0-8 Join Ms. Kara as she reads some fun holiday and seasonal stories! Each story time will be filled with books, a craft, a small snack, and of course lots of fun! Please register for each story time individually. July 6th: Independence Day

The Ocean Comes to Visit

Presented by Chrisopher Agostino of StoryFaces Thursday, August 25th at 4pm Experience an exciting storytelling show featuring the classic folktale where the Ocean is invited to a party at the house of the Moon and the Sun. All brought to colorful life on the faces of audience volunteers and with the help of the entire audience. Registration required.
