TWO SUMNER CO. RESIDENTS CHARGED WITH TENNCARE DRUG FARUD

NASHVILLE, TENN. – TWO SUMNER COUNTY RESIDENTS ARE CHARGED WITH TENNCARE FRAUD INVOLVING PRESCRIPTION DRUGS, INCLUDING A WOMAN CHARGED FOR THE THIRD TIME WITH DOCTOR SHOPPING.

The Office of Inspector General (OIG), with the assistance of the Hendersonville Police Department, today announced the arrest of Christopher J. Taylor, 42, of Hendersonville, and Katrina Ann Bond, 27, of Gallatin.

Taylor is accused of TennCare fraud and delivery of a controlled substance in connection with using TennCare benefits to obtain the painkiller Hydrocodone, and later selling a portion of the drugs.

Katrina Ann Bond is charged in Davidson County with three counts of fraudulently obtaining a controlled substance by doctor shopping for Hydrocodone, using TennCare benefits as payment.

Bond was arrested a year ago when she was charged with five counts of TennCare fraud in Sumner and Wilson Counties. She was accused of doctor shopping for Hydrocodone, using TennCare as payment. Bond pleaded guilty in both counties; she was ordered to repay TennCare $2,252 in restitution and sentenced to four years of supervised probation.

“We could not have success without local law enforcement officers helping us identify these cases, build evidence, or assist in making the arrests,” Inspector General Manny Tyndall said. “We hope that everyone, including local law enforcement will ask for our assistance or let us know when they suspect TennCare fraud.”

The TennCare fraud charges against Taylor could result in a two year sentence if convicted. District Attorney Lawrence R. Whitley is prosecuting. District Attorney General Glenn Funk is prosecuting the Davidson County case.

The OIG, which is separate from TennCare, began full operation in February 2005 and has investigated cases leading to over $3 million being repaid to TennCare, with a total estimated cost avoidance of over $163.6 million for TennCare, according to latest figures. To date, 2,279 people have been charged with TennCare fraud.

Through the OIG Cash for Tips Program established by the Legislature, Tennesseans can get cash rewards for TennCare fraud tips that lead to convictions. Anyone can report suspected TennCare fraud by calling 1-800-433-3982 toll-free from anywhere in Tennessee, or log on to tnoig/ and follow the prompts that read "Report TennCare Fraud."
