THE SURVIVOR'S CLUB

Thursdays at 7 PM—4750 Zimmerman Ave—Niagara Falls, ON

PREAMBLE

Welcome to The Survivor's Club meeting of Narcotics Anonymous. My name is ________ and I am an addict. Could we open the meeting with a moment of silence for the addict who still suffers, followed by the Serenity Prayer?

(PRAYER)

We ask at this time that you please silence your cell phones and refrain from texting throughout the meeting. We take what goes on in this room very seriously and we want to ensure that everyone is given the respect they deserve. Can we please have introductions around the room?

(INTRODUCTIONS)

(IF YOU SEE NEW FACES): Is there anyone from out of town who would like to be recognized?

The NA message is that an addict—any addict—can stop using drugs, lose the desire to use, and find a new way to live. NA is a nonprofit fellowship or society of men and women for whom drugs had become a major problem. We are recovering addicts who meet regularly to help each other stay clean. This is a program of complete abstinence from all drugs. There is only one requirement for membership, the desire to stop using. We suggest that you keep an open mind and give yourself a break. Our program is a set of principles written so simply that we can follow them in our daily lives. The most important thing about them is that they work.

There are no strings attached to NA. We are not affiliated with any other organizations. We have no initiation fees or dues, no pledges to sign, no promises to make to anyone. We are not connected with any political, religious, or law enforcement groups, and are under no surveillance at any time. Anyone may join us regardless of age, race, sexual identity, creed, religion, or lack of religion.

We are not interested in what or how much you used or who your connections were, what you have done in the past, how much or how little you have, but only in what you want to do about your problem and how we can help. The newcomer is the most important person at any meeting, because we can only keep what we have by giving it away. We have learned from our group experience that those who keep coming to our meetings regularly stay clean.

We have a few readings taken from our Basic Text. Can I have an addict please read:

• Who Is An Addict?

• How It Works

• Could an addict please recognize cleantime with the keytags?

• Could an addict please select a reading from the container?

(READING)

• Could an addict please select a topic from the container?

(OVER)

CLARITY STATEMENT:

Narcotics Anonymous was formed because many addicts were unable to identify with members of Alcoholics Anonymous. We ask that you please keep this in mind when sharing. In NA, we focus on addiction. Alcoholism is too limited a term for us. We identify ourselves as “addicts” and refer to our time in the program as “recovery” or “cleantime”. Using words like “alcoholic”, “sober” and “sobriety” tends to put the focus on a specific substance, rather than the disease of addiction. We thank you for your respect and cooperation in carrying a clear Narcotics Anonymous message to the addict who still suffers.

We have come to the “sharing” portion of our meeting. You can share on what we've read, or on the topic: ______. If you are new, or if you are unable to share on these topics, that is perfectly fine. You can share on anything that is affecting your recovery. You may also choose to pass, if you'd prefer to just listen.

(IF THERE ARE POSSIBLE NON-ADDICTS PRESENT): Our literature reminds us that “NA relies on the therapeutic value of one addict helping another.” We want to thank all non-addict visitors for your support. We ask, however, that you please refrain from sharing.

(IF THERE ARE MORE THAN 15 PEOPLE): Since we have more than 15 people in attendance tonight, we will be using a timer for sharing. Please do your best to limit your share to 3 minutes or less. If you hear the timer go off, please do your best to wrap up your share.

Lastly, I’d like to remind everyone to please silence your cell phones and refrain from using them throughout the sharing portion. Can I get a volunteer to start?

(SHARING)

(AT 8:00 PM) We have come to the end of our meeting. If you have something you wish to share, please talk to someone before you leave. Also, if you are new, we encourage you to stick around for an extra few minutes after the meeting, introduce yourself to some members, and get some phone numbers. Remember, we are here to help, so please don't be afraid to ask for it.

If you would like to join this group, please speak to myself or any other group member after we close. Could group members please raise their hands? The pamphlets on the literature table are free, and the books can be purchased at group cost. If you can't afford a book, please speak to a group member.

THE SEVENTH TRADITION:

The money placed in this box is what we use to pay for the group's expenses. This money is also used to help carry the message of NA throughout the Niagara Area, the Ontario Region, and around the world. If you are not an addict, please do not put money in the box, as we are fully self-supporting. Are there any NA-related announcements?

(ANNOUNCEMENTS)

Could an addict please read “We Do Recover”?
