According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the job outlook for cyber security professionals is strong. Employment in the field for such jobs as Information Security Analysts and others are expected to increase much faster than the national average for all occupations. Cyber security has become a new major for colleges and universities as the cyber workforce is expected to climb to six million globally by 2019. It is imperative that we provide the opportunity to our students to meet the demands of the current digital landscape.Course Description:Designed for students with no security experience or background, this course will cover basic terminology and concepts. Included will be the fundamental concepts of computers, networking, and operation security. Students will be introduced to the mechanisms and history of software, hardware, and OS security. This is a “global certification that validates the baseline skills you need to perform core security functions and pursue an IT security career”. CompTIA Security+ is “recommended as the first security certification IT professionals should earn and can help advance individuals to intermediate level cyber security jobs”. Taking this exam is completely optional and has an additional cost associated with it.
