ELL Teacher Responsibilities
I. The following will be the responsibilities of the Itinerate ELL Teacher:
1. Responsible for the Identification Process and Program Development for ELL Students
• Review home language surveys of new students and enter in Alpine.( all new students to the district including Kindergarten students)
• Administer the CELA Place Test to all students whose home language survey indicates another language is spoken in the home.
• Score and put information on profile sheet and enter in Alpine.
• Notify Judy Fulbright and copy to ELL Coordinator new students that are being placed in ELL program and their proficiency level. This would include any students that are re-entered into the program also.
• Review test profile with RTI Team for placement.
• Send notification to parents that student qualifies for ELL program. At beginning of school year this must be done within 30 school days from enrollment; after first month this must be done within ten (10) school days.
• Responsible for developing the English Language Learner Plan (ELLP); get input from classroom teacher(s) and RTI Team.
• Put ELLP in Alpine.
• Review Plan and get input from parents/guardian if possible. Parent signature required on plan.
• Review CELApro and Matrix data to begin redesignation process for ELL students that qualify.
• When student qualifies for redesignation it will be the ELL Teacher’s responsibility to send information to the Educational Services Office.
• Provide each instructor that has an ELL student in their class with a Student Matrix after student has moved to the fluent stage and may be ready to be placed on Monitor status. Students must have 90% rating in column E on matrix and fluent on CELApro to be considered for re-designation to monitor status.
• ELL instructor will also notify the Data person (Judy Fulbright) when students are being placed on Monitor status.
• ELL Teacher will send letter to parent/guardian informing them that their child is being redesignated to Monitor Status and get parent signature for approval.
• Note redesnignation on Alpine and place Letter with parent/guardian signature in Student Cum file.
• Collaborate with class room teachers to update ELL plan
• Administer CELApro
• Ensure that student records are updated and appropriate copies are sent to ESC if applicable or placed on Alpine..
• Help develop schedule at each school (must schedule NEP students for 300 minuets per week and LEP students for 225 per week)
• Attend parent conferences as needed
• Help ensure that information is provided for families in their native language if needed
• Help ensure that translators are provided for families when needed.
• Enter on Alpine if translator is used and/or materials send home has been translated.
• Send monitoring information to Educational Services Office.
• When ELL student has completed two years of monitoring it will be the ELL Teacher’s responsibility to send data to Educational Services Office for final approval to exit student.
• Students may only exit program with approval of Assistant Superintendent.
• Principal and/or ELL Teacher must notify parents/guardians that refuse ELL Services that they must come to Office of Instruction to sign waiver for refusal of services.
• File copy with signature of parents who refuse services in Student Cum file and also enter it on Alpine.
• Students that have refused services are still required to take CELA Proficiency Test each year.
• ELL teacher will be resource for class room teacher and help provide strategies to be used in regular education classroom for students who have refused services.
• ELL Teachers will attend meetings and trainings as required by the Office of Instruction.
• ELL Teachers will attend RTI meetings and or staffings that involve ELL Students.
• Attend teachers meetings as required by principals.
• Turn in Mileage forms monthly.
