JOB DESCRIPTION DEPUTY HEAD1. Introduction. The Deputy Head is responsible for the administration, routine and good order of the school. The role encompasses leadership, management and organisation across the full range of school operations and activities. It also includes the role of Designated Safeguarding Lead. It is combined with some teaching responsibilities.2. School Routine, Supervision, Care and Play. Overview and regular monitoring of non-class school routines, upholding high standards within a safe and secure environment and atmosphere.-start and end of day, liaising with the Head of EYFS, office manager and the senior minibus driver-movement between lessons and at breaks and lunchtimes-playground, lunchtime and other staff duty rosters-start and end of term/half term arrangements4. Child Protection and Safeguarding. The Deputy Head is the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead, and should therefore undertake all duties and checks associated with this role.5. Extra-Curricular Life, Assemblies, Activites, Clubs. In liaison with the Headmistress and the Office Manager, overview and coordination of all educational activities and endeavours taking place outside classroom time, with particular reference to how they fit in with the curriculum as a whole. Allocations and administrative arrangements are undertaken by the office manager. The areas include:-music lessons and ensembles-drama productions-sporting events-class and whole school assemblies-lunchtime and after-school clubs and activities-Summer School; summer revision week-after-school tutorials (ASTs)4. Discipline and Behaviour. The Deputy Head maintains an overview of standards of courtesy and behaviour. In terms of sanctions, the deputy has the authority to suspend pupils for up to 2 days, normally having consulted with the Headmistress.-ensuring maintenance of effective “Good to be Green” records-maintenance of records of all issued “red cards”, and subsequent follow-up-support and advice to staff-investigations when cases are referred by parents or staff-referral to Headmistress as appropriate5. Parents’ Evenings and Briefings. In liaison with the Headmistress, the planning and organisation of parents meetings and briefings.6. Disposition of Staff. In liaison with the Headmistress, coordination of staff deployment and support:-staff planned absence; staff cover; back to work interviews conducted by the Bursar)-start of term INSET (overall programme and pattern arranged in liaison with Headmistress)- staff meetings and briefings-support and advice for staff7. Policies Coordination and Upkeep. The Deputy Head is responsible for the upkeep of school policies. Authorship and checking may be delegated where appropriate, with the Deputy should ensuring a consistent style and a high standard of clarity.8. Teaching. The role includes a teaching commitment of around 12 periods per week (out of a total 25 teaching periods) This currently comprises the teaching of one mathematics set in Years 5 and 6 (5 periods each) and of Year 6 on one afternoon per week (2 periods). 9. Reporting; Nature of Role, Terms. -Reporting. The role reports to the Headmistress-Nature of Role. This is a full-time, senior role, including committee membership as requested by the Headmistress. It is combined with teaching responsibilities.-Terms. The salary is as agreed with the Headmistress. The role is pensionable. Holidays should be taken in school holidays.
