|Course Description: |This class emphasizes current theory and practice in K-8 writing development, review of applicable |

| |rhetorical and linguistic theories, evaluation and assessment of written work, and relationships |

| |between reading and composition. Prerequisite: ENGL 1312 or ENGL 1313 or ESOL 1312. Junior standing |

| |recommended. |

|Course Objectives/Outcomes: |Generally, as in all English Education classes, students will increase their understanding of content|

| |that will be relevant to them as classroom teachers. |

| |Specifically, students will become confident writers and will be able to develop writing lesson plans|

| |that will engage learners at all levels. |

|Teaching Method: |Most of the class will be interactive and cooperative learning. Some of the class will be direct |

|Brief Description of Course Content: |Student will work in learning groups and will learn how to use the Writing Workshop method. Students|

| |will be expected to develop lesson plans as well as write poetry, essays, and short stories. |
