FROM FR. DAN’S DESK…

Welcome Home Master Sergeant Christopher Cekovsky!

I am very happy to welcome home on behalf of all of us at our parish, one of our parishioners - Master Sergeant Christopher Cekovsky, from a tour of deployment in Afghanistan. Chris is a Master Sergeant in the Air National Guard Security Force Squadrom. Chris has been away from us and his family for almost 10 months, and has just returned home this week. I know his wife Colleen, and his children - Brandon and Kinley are happy to have Chris back home! We welcome Chris back and thank him for his service to Our Country. We continue to commit our prayers for all of our service men and women at home or abroad, who are serving our country and protecting our freedoms!

My friends on this Fourth Sunday of Easter we celebrate “Good Shepherd Sunday”. The image of Jesus as the “Good Shepherd” is a comforting one for us as we realize that we are part of His flock and always safely in the care of His loving arms. The Universal Church also selects Good Shepherd Sunday to be the occasion when it celebrates “World Day of Prayer for Vocations”. The Church needs good shepherds in its men and women who are willing to take up spiritual leadership positions in the church – as priests, brothers, religious sisters, lay evangelists, teachers, catechists, etc. This weekend we focus our prayer on that need and pray that families will encourage their sons and daughters to consider a life of dedicated service to God and His Church. The rewards are not so much temporal, but they are “heavenly”!

This weekend we welcome back Bishop Rozanski for a special Mass he will celebrate in our church at 1:00Pm on Sunday afternoon for the Youth of our Diocese involved in the recent “YouthServe” Project in our Diocese. We are blessed that we have a Bishop with so much energy and so much enthusiasm to get to know us, the members of his flock, and especially our Youth!

I want to extend a special “Thank You” to our Parish Pastoral Council Chair - Mary Regan for her years of service on the Parish Council. Mary continues to be involved in many things in our Parish including teaching our Kindergarten Religious Ed Program and helping to coordinate our Summer Vacation Bible Camp. And though she is stepping down from her time on the Pastoral Council, I know she will be a resource to the Council for future endeavors and projects – always willing to lend a hand. I want to congratulate Kathy Harrington who I have appointed as our new Parish Pastoral Council Chair. Kathy is an energetic and giving person who has offered many of her talents to our parish in recent years and will certainly do a fine job of helping our Pastoral Council focus on its “Mission of Evangelization” in the coming year. At our most recent meeting, the Council took some time to evaluate our Lenten Programs and outreach, and were pleased with the great numbers of people who attended our Parish Lenten Series, the Mass with the Relic of St. John Paul, the Healing Mass, Women’s Evening of Reflection, etc. Believe it or not, if we want to get good speakers for next year we have to start that process now! One of the things the Council spoke about was selecting a “theme” for next year’s Lenten Series and that it would be very appropriate for us to focus our theme on “mercy”, since Pope Francis has declared a “Holy Year of Mercy” beginning in December and concluding in November of 2016. The council will continue its discussions on this theme and finding a good speaker(s) for the Series next year!

Registrations continue for the Parish Team - “The Wholely Spirit – Team OLBS” in the Run Westfield 5K coming up on May 16. Remember – walkers are welcome! For every registered person on our Parish Team – we will get $5 back and we will put that toward our Fundraising Charity - The Westfield Soup Kitchen Summer Pantry Program. And remember, you can sponsor our Parish Team - we already have over $200 in sponsorship that will be matched up to $500 by Race Director and parishioner – Mike Tierney. We really would love to get that full match, so if anyone can help to support the Team, please sign the Sponsor Sheet in the Gathering Space this weekend – Thank You!

Finally…. he’s baaaaaaack... Tim Tebow… he’s back!

God Bless, Fr. Dan

- Encourage your children, grandchildren or other young people to consider a vocation as a priest or religious brother or sister.

2015 ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL PRAYER

Loving and merciful God,

You gave us Jesus Your only Son,

to be our Savior, Redeemer, Brother and Friend.

Inspire us with the gift of your Holy Spirit,

to recall our baptismal promise to be like Christ,

by sharing our gifts of time, talent and treasure

with our brothers and sisters in need.

As we undertake our Annual Appeal,

“Serve with Love”,

we ask for your guidance as we strive

to fulfill these promises that we offer up to you.

Give us the grace and understanding to carry out

your will as we faithfully

continue Christ’s mission here

in the Diocese of Springfield.

With Mary, we ask this through

Christ our Lord.

Amen.[pic][pic]
