Topic – Chinese New Year/Fairytales

From the 1st to 9th February the children will be learning about the customs and traditions associated with Chinese New Year and we will be having a visit from Stella Tsang an active member of the Chinese community in Northern Ireland. The role play area will become a Chinese restaurant and the children will be learning rhymes and listening to stories around this topic. After half term the children will be listening to a range of fairytales at story time and they will have opportunities to retell the stories using fairytale characters or making up their own fairytales. The role play area will become a workshop just like Geppetto’s in the story of Pinocchio. The outdoor play house will become the 3 bear’s cottage. The children will be encouraged to use mathematical language associated with size and comparison. We will use the story of ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ to highlight Stranger Danger and the children will be challenged to use a range of construction materials to make a new chair for baby bear, a strong house for the three pigs and a bridge for the three Billy Goats Gruff.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Nursery interviews will be held on Monday the 12th and Tuesday 13th March. There will be 10 minute slots available from 9.10 to 4.00 on both days. There is a sheet available on the Parents’ notice board outlining the days and times. Please choose a time that would suit you and write your child’s name in the appropriate box. I appreciate that many of you are working and do not drop off or collect your child from nursery. If this is the case, please if possible, get your child minder to write your child’s name in a time that would suit. If the days or times do not suit, an alternative day and/or time can be arranged by contacting Mrs Addis between 11.45 and 12.15 or after 3 on the number at the top of the news sheet.

Fresh Fruit

Please send in one piece of fresh fruit every Monday or if school is closed then the next day it is open.

Vaseline tins

[pic] If you have any small empty vaseline tins please wash them and send them into nursery as we are collecting them for an activity we would like to do with the children.

Toys

Just a little reminder that children should only bring a toy to nursery on a Friday for show and tell. Recently there have been a number of children arriving at nursery with toys on other days. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Website

Please have a look on the school website .uk

There are paintings from our gallery and you will also find the news sheet there too. After Mrs Tsang has been in to talk to the children about Chinese New Year there will be photographs on the website documenting her visit as well as the visit we had from our local library on the 30th January and the 7th February.

|I Am Special |I Have Ten Fingers |

|I am special, I am special |I have ten fingers |

|If you look you’ll see |And they all belong to me. |

|Someone very special, |I can make them do things – |

|Someone very special, |Would you like to see? |

|Yes that’s you, yes that’s me. |I can shut them up tight |

|(tune – Frere Jacques) |I can open them wide |

| |I can put them together |

|[pic] |I can make them all hide |

| |I can make them jump high |

|I Have |I can make them jump low |

|I have two eyes to see, |I can fold them up quietly |

|I have two hands to wave with, |And hold them just so. |

|And a nose I only have one! | |

|I have two ears to hear with, |[pic] |

|And one mouth to say ‘Good day’ |Monkeys On The Bed |

|I have two cheeks for you to pinch |Five little monkeys jumping on the bed |

|And then I run away! |One fell off and bumped his head |

| |Mama called the doctor and the doctor said |

|Jack In The Box |“No more monkeys jumping on the bed!” |

|Jack in the box, still as a mouse, | |

|Deep down inside his little dark house, |Four little monkeys……….. |

|Jack in the box, resting so still, | |

|Will you come out? |[pic] |

|YES I WILL!! |Row, Row, Row Your Boat |

| |Row, row, row, row your boat |

|[pic] |Gently down the stream |

| |Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily |

|Head And Shoulders |Life is but a dream! |

|Head and shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes | |

|Head and shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes |Row, row, row, row your boat |

|And eyes and ears and mouth and nose |Gently down the stream |

|Head and shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes. |If you see a crocodile |

| |Don’t forget to scream! |

|Open, Shut Them | |

|Open, shut them, open, shut them |Row, row, row, row your boat |

|Give a little clap |Gently down the Nile |

|Open, shut them, open, shut them |If you see a camel |

|Put them on your lap |Don’t forget to smile! |

|Creep them, creep them, creep them creep them, | |

|Right up to your chin, chin, chin |Row, row, row, row your boat |

|Open wide your little mouth |Gently down the river |

|(hesitate) |If you see a polar bear |

|But do not put them in |Don’t forget to shiver! |
