Position: VICE PRESIDENT FOR ACADEMIC AFFAIRSDepartment: Office of Academic AffairsPosition Status: Full-TimeDirectly Reports To: President of the CollegeClassification: ExemptThaddeus Stevens College of Technology seeks a visionary and experienced leader to serve as Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA). The VPAA reports directly to the President of the College and is the chief academic affairs officer of the College. The VPAA oversees the Academic Divisions and Programs along with the various offices and functions of Academic Affairs, including Recruitment, Admissions, Financial Aid, Enrollment Management, Engagement and Retention (including the administration of Act 101), the Library, the Learning Resource Center, Continuing Education, K-16 initiatives, Articulation Agreements, Career Services, and Academic Counseling.As a member of the President’s Executive Leadership Council, the VPAA is part of a collaborative and innovative leadership team guiding Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology consistent with the College’s mission and values. The VPAA will contribute strategic thinking, wise counsel, and effective management to Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology, and serve as a positive influence on Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology’s culture.The successful candidate must be an effective leader of people, and must exhibit the ability to develop leaders, address and manage personnel issues, and contribute to a growing, vibrant, thriving organizational and institutional culture. Major Responsibilities and DutiesFacultyOversee and facilitate the recruitment, selection, and retention of a diverse faculty that is consonant with the mission and values of the College;Ensure the provision of continued professional development to maintain and enhance the excellence of the faculty, with a priority assigned to ensuring continued professional development for faculty and staff; Maintain and strengthen the role of shared governance in the College, including the effective function of faculty committees;Administer and strengthen the College’s promotion and tenure review process for faculty members;Provide leadership for strategic planning efforts to strengthen academic programs;Ensure the efficient and effective use of fiscal resources in developing and delivering academic programs;Ensure compliance with all relevant legal requirements of government regulations and educational standards established by agencies that oversee and accredit the College;Review and refine processes used to evaluate faculty members to ensure accuracy, fairness, and continued professional growth;Review and refine processes used to ensure diversity, equity, and inclusion in the delivery of instruction;Serve as a knowledgeable resource regarding modern and emerging best practices regarding instruction in career and technical education; andReview and refine processes used to maintain strong and fruitful connections between academic programs and relevant industries.StudentsOversee and support a robust student recruitment effort to populate the College with a diverse student body that is consonant with the College’s mission and values;Facilitate the development and refine strong academic counseling programs to help students make good choices about programs of study to pursue;Facilitate the development and refine strong student support systems, including effective interventions and early warning systems to call attention to situations where timely interventions are warranted;Review and refine processes used to evaluate students’ academic progress to ensure accuracy, fairness, and continued growth;Oversee student dismissal and readmission processes that are equitable, fair and humane; andEnsure that student records are properly retained and maintained and in accordance with relevant regulations.QualificationsMaster’s degree in a relevant educational field from an accredited institution; Note: An earned doctorate in a relevant field is preferred.Teaching, research and service experience in an academic department at a college or university;Five years or more of administrative level leadership experience in higher education or related endeavors;Demonstrated good judgment, diplomacy and skill in providing sensitive communications and being respectful with people who are diverse in their cultures, languages and abilities;Experience as an academic leader with responsibilities in areas such as curriculum development, assessment, faculty development, or career and workforce education;Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;Knowledge of computer technology and instructional learning systems, procedures, and policies;Ability to take the initiative on projects, follow through on details, and balance various tasks simultaneously;Exceptional written, presentation, and verbal communication skills that are effective with multiple constituencies; andExperience in balancing strategic leadership with the need to achieve demonstrable results.
