Available at: [Accessed 8 Jan. 2018].15 Greatest Video Game Theme Songs of All TimeAll of the songs on this list were memorable and catchy and so they got stuck in your head, this is because they were written to be so, because the developers were creating a franchise and needed a good soundtrack to back it. Not only this but the themes were also relevant to the game with slow low strings and orchestral themes for the adventure games giving you a sense of grandeur, and also high pitched jovial themes for the platformers.This tells me that I need to create an original and possibly catchy tune, so people can recognise the game from the track giving it characteristic and enthusiasm. However, it also tells me that I need to make the track relevant, for example I would make a fast high pitched action theme for someone’s funeral. With this knowledge I think that I can make a better soundtrack that will be catchy and relevant for the player.Gustavo Santaolalla: The Music of the Last of UsSantaolalla talks about his freedom of being able to create whatever he wanted for the game, as well as his ability to experiment. This is because it gave him the gratification of learning and creating something truly unique and new, and this was one of the better things about the project.This gives me the idea of experimenting with my guitar, this could be by detuning some of the strings or it could be through changing the chords that I already know, both ways its letting me experiment and create new sounds to me which could be vital in creating an apocalyptic soundtrack.Fallout 4 Official Main Theme by Inon ZurThis track started off slowly, with a high pitch tone building-up into a greater song, for me this mirrors the development and improvement of mankind. After this a quite bomb sound plays and then the low strings come in, this mimics the atomic bombs dropping in the game and the fall of mankind after this. Finally you get the higher tones back over the lower tones, which for me symbolises your characters fight to improve the still baron and empty wasteland, with the high strings being the hope in your character and the low being the turmoil and contest against the wasteland. This song that you hear at the start of the game foreshadows the events that you’re about to play. However, since it is music this foreshadowing is vague for those who have not played the game.To me this says that I should have an underlying tone in my soundtrack that will reflect the emotions of the layer and possible events of the game. I could also create little nuances in the soundtrack to create a glimmer of hope for the player or a feeling of dread depending on the situation.Among The Walking Dead | A Conversation with Bear McCrearyFrom this interview I get the impression that Bear McCreary likes to emphasise the feeling of the viewer of the show with his score. However, he only used acoustic tracks in the first 3 seasons of the show, but decided to change it up when a new big villain arrives in the shape of the governor. I also earned that he watches an early cut of the episode to help him understand what type of track he needs to make.This helps me to understand that I will need a bit of concept art to help gauge my creative flow in order to create the soundtrack, I also think that I will develop a few scenarios where in which these tracks will be played.BibliographyYoutube (2009). What didn’tExplanation of what was undertakenFollowing my literature review, it became clear that my darkness was never going to be real darkness. I had learnt the type of lights and reflectors that I needed to use. I practiced in a variety of locations. I then showed the footage to peers and lecturers to gauge their opinion. I also posted it to Twitter and gain some very helpful responses. ConclusionIt didn’t do what I really wanted. To get the scene as dark as I wanted, the actors had to have unnaturally bright lights on them which was not the look I wanted. It looked to staged and filmnoir”e”. I am going to experiment now, with filming at dusk, to see if that gives me more tonal variation, and allows for the feeling of dark, but the ability to see the action.We must be able to see all that you do. It does not serve you just to post the footage of “My filming in the Dark”. We must see the whole journey, from start to finish. You need to tell us what you did, what you learnt and how you might use it.You must also include any experiments that don’t work, and tell us why.
