Greek Gods Research Project

Greek Gods Research Project

Step 1: Choose a Greek god During our first class meeting for this project, you will meet with your assigned group and sign up for a god to research. Be certain to have a back-up in case your first choice is already taken.

Step 2: Begin your research You must find the following information, along with anything else you find pertinent to our understanding of the god you are researching.

1. Greek and Roman name 2. What does he/she control, special abilities/powers 3. Specific weaknesses 4. Story of birth 5. Major myths associated with the god 6. Modern allusions associated with the god (make one up if not available!) 7. Picture/image of the god 8. Objects associated with the god 9. Relationship to other gods (family tree), spouse, children 10. Rank among gods (describe how powerful this god is) 11. Other interesting facts about the god

Choices: Apollo, Dionysus, Demeter, Eros, Artemis, Hera, Zeus, Ares, Hermes, Athena, Poseidon, Hades, Persephone, Hephaestus

Research note: You may not use Wikipedia, , personal blogs, or other unreliable sources for your information. Look for .org and .edu sites and check the credibility of the information by looking to see who posted the information. You need to have at least 3 different sources. Ask for help if you need it!

Step 3: Create your visual aide For your presentation, you must create a computer-generated visual aide (I recommend PowerPoint). It should include the following:

1. Bullet point information (do NOT put long descriptions ? you will verbally add to the information on your visual)

2. Appropriate images that add to your information

3. A properly-formatted MLA style Works Cited page at the end (use the online resource)

Step 4: Prepare and practice your presentation On Monday and Thursday of finals week, we will be presenting in the Lyceum. This is a formal presentation so you must prepare! Some things you should do before your presentation:

1. Read the rubric carefully

2. Divide the information evenly among your group members

3. Create note cards with additional information to add

4. Read through all information several times ? you should not have to read your notes; only use them as a guide

5. Practice the entire presentation together to ensure that it is no shorter than 6 minutes and no longer than 8 minutes.

6. On the day of your presentation, each group must bring one rubric with names (first and last) filled in for me to record your scores.
