Rather than using student surveys, Kalenkoski studies data from Child Development Supplement (CDS) and the Transition to Adulthood Survey (TA) of the Panel Study of Income Dynamics. She considers grade point average and college attendance by age 20 to determine if and how homework impacts student performance. This source is very valuable for my research because it provides a great amount of data. I can use these numbers to show that homework doesn’t lead to significant increases in academic achievement. I especially plan to use this data when discussing my supporting point three in my essay. McLester, S. (2016). The great homework debate. National Association of ElementarySchool Principals. Retrieved from principal Susan McLester discusses the educational trend toward more student-centered learning. She notes that homework does not correlate to academic success, especially in elementary school, and that if students are to be given homework, these assignments should be meaningful and non traditional worksheets. McLester then spends the rest of her article exploring three alternative approaches to homework: real world problem solving, flipped classrooms, and independent reading. Although this source does not provide any data or statistics, it does offer practical tips and strategies to help teachers re-define homework and how they might assign work outside of the classroom. This source might be useful in my paper when I discuss alternative approaches to traditional classroom assignments. ................
