Selective Mutism is an anxiety disorder that is characterized by a consistent pattern of not speaking in specific social situations, despite speaking in other situations. It is often misunderstood and children may be regarded as “shy”, “stubborn” or “looking for attention”. This Training Day aims to help parents and those working with children gain an understanding of Selective Mutism and an awareness of how to intervene in order to help children speak freely across all settings.
