In the distance, his family is running over to him. He ...

The sun shone brightly, as Kal pulled the sunglasses out from the side of his shorts. He slipped them on and adjusted his eyes. He looked around the beautiful beach as the waves splashed against the dry sand, making it perfect for sandcastles. The sound of the waves was soothing and he could fall asleep to the sound. He sat back on his tower and sighed, the ocean breeze blowing against his mane.

As he continued to scan the beach, a kid crying made his ear flick. A little goat, no more than the age of 6 was standing beside the tower. He jumped out of his seat and stepped down the stairs and kneeled next to the kid.

"Hey, bud! What's wrong." He asked sympathetically. The kid wiped the tears from his face and looked up at the fairly trim lion. His eyes were big and sad.

"I- I can't find my mommy or daddy." He started to cry again. Kal consoled the kid and promised to find his parents. He stepped away from his post, nudging his coworker Xander to cover for him for a moment. The tiger nodded as Kal distracted the kid from the situation by asking him questions "What's your favorite flavor of ice cream kiddo?". The kid looked at him, his eyes lighting up.

"I love all sorts of flavors," he said cheerfully, almost forgetting the circumstance he was in "My family owns an ice cream shop on the beach".

Kal perked up "Oh really? I love ice cream. Especially mint chocolate chip!" He could just taste the cool cream on his tongue already. As they walked on, the kid squints and screams. In the distance, his family is running over to him. He breaks free of Kal's grasp and runs to his family, embracing him. Kal catches up with the goat and his family, as they thank him. "It was nothing," he says "just doing my job!". He looks at the time on his watch and smiles "It is my break now, and your son says you guys own an ice cream shop. Mind if I stop by?"

The parents look at each other and nod "Of course! Kal is it? You can come by any time and we'll give you free ice cream for a year"

Kal was stunned. He stuttered "You don't have to." But the family insisted and Kai followed behind them to the shop. The cool AC felt nice from the hot summer sun and the kid whispered to his family. They smiled and scooped a giant chunk of mint chocolate chip, Kal's favorite. He chuckled and winked at the kid and thanked them kindly before heading out the door and back to his job.

~ One Year Later ~

The sun shone brightly, as Kal grunted and stretched to reach for his sunglasses. Eventually, he was able to successfully snag them off his shorts and he slipped them on and adjusted his eyes. He looked around, but couldn't see anything but a sea of white fluff, hearing

the sound of the waves beyond him. He grunted and sat up, his now monstrous belly blocking the view of the beach. It grumbled as he moved, eagerly waiting to be fed once again. It had been almost a year since he helped that kid find his family, and the free ice cream every day... well it took a toll on his waistline... He did his best to hold off on getting the ice cream, but it was too irresistibly good. And to be honest, he was starting to resemble a melted scoop of ice cream himself!

Just a few months after all the ice cream, none of his clothes fit him. It didn't take long for the pudgy lion to outgrow one size after another. They were all like crop tops and skinny shorts, no matter how much he struggled to put it on. Which meant new clothing, and well... let's just say he had to get custom attire for his lifeguard uniform. Well, it's hard to call him a true lifeguard now. Along with his clothing, running to the water to help people had been quite a hassle. He'd make it to them but be drenched in sweat by the time he got to the water as if he'd been swimming prior. So his boss "unoffically demoted" him to lost and found and medical. Luckily he still has the same pay, though it was a little disappointing.

As he was about to close his eyes and rest, a kid crying made his ear flick. He grunted and got out of his "Lifeguard" seat. He waddled over to the kid and made an effort to kneel towards him. The small pup was taken aback by the lardball of a lion, but he seemed friendly enough.

"Hey, bud! What's wrong." The large lion asked sympathetically. The little puppy cried and said he lost his family. Kal looked up at Xander who gave him a nod from above the tower, rolling his eyes knowing where this was headed.

He reassured the kid as he began to waddle to find the kid's family. Just a minute in and he had already begun to huff and puff. His belly slapping against his furry thighs, His belly sloshing around. He huffed and puffed and asked the kid, out of breath to distract him "So wheeze What's your favorite hobby?"

The kid looked at him, his eyes lighting up cheerfully "I love to help my family cook! We run a fast-food chain!"

Kal perked up "Oh really! What's it called?" he questioned the pup. The small dog smiled and replied "Burger Temple!"

Kal chuckled "Oh I LOVE that place! They have some of the best burgers in the world there! I love their triple deluxe burger with bacon, what about you"

"Oh, I just get a little cheeseburger!" he said skipping, holding the chubby lion's hand. As they walked on, the kid squints begins to run. In the distance, his family of dogs ran over to him. Kal yells at the kid to wait up, knowing he's not as fit as he once was. Eventually, he makes it over to the family who thanks him. He asks the family "Mind if I grab a bite to eat! Your son told me you own one of my favorite burger chains"

The parents look at each other and nod "Of course! In fact, as a thank you, how does free burgers for a year sound?"

As Kal was about to protest, his belly growled at the sound of the offer. He chuckled "Where have I heard that before"
