In the case of this poem, the reward is death. The man wishes to see the true face of death, and suffer the pain that his fellow soldiers had to endure in their deaths. The last ten lines of the poem serve as a sort of denouement to the poem, as the speaker gains peace in the end of the fight, for "The black minute's at end". ................
