are formally introduced

to the six forms of

energy and energy

transfer in an interactive

PowerPoint

3. Exploring energy

transfer

-students will rotate

through five different

energy transfer labs

stations

N.B. Exit Slips/Class participation: At the beginning of every class students will receive a question on the board

pertaining to the previous day*s work. This will allow them to get focused and settled faster. It will also be their

exit slip out of class. At the end of the unit these questions will be used as a participation grade.

III. Daily Lesson Plans

Lesson 1 每Forms of Energy

Purpose: To investigate the difference between kinetic and potential energy. To be able

distinguish between the six general forms of energy and provide examples. To understand the

laws of conservation of energy.

NSTA standards: 1a), 1b), 1c), 2c), 3b), 6a), 6b), 8a)

SOLs:

PS. 1 The student will plan and conduct investigations in which

a) chemicals and equipment are used safely;

b) length, mass, volume, density, temperature, weight, and force are accurately

measured and reported using metric units (SI〞International System of Units);

d) triple beam and electronic balances, thermometers, metric rulers, graduated

cylinders, and spring scales are used to gather data;

k) valid conclusions are made after analyzing data;

PS. 5 The student will investigate and understand changes in matter and the relationship of

these changes to the Law of Conservation of Matter and Energy. Key concepts include

a) physical changes;

PS. 6 The student will investigate and understand states and forms of energy and how energy is

transferred and transformed. Key concepts include:

a) potential and kinetic energy;

b) mechanical, chemical, and electrical energy; and

c) heat, light, and sound.

PS. 9 The student will investigate and understand the nature and technological applications of

light. Key concepts include

c) the electromagnetic spectrum.
