What is ISI Master Journal List?

ISI Master Journal List is a list of all journals covered in all databases of ISI (i.e., SCI, SCI\E, SSCI, A&HCI etc). It is

used for various purposes like:

-

finding out if a journal is covered by a specific database like SCI.

-

selecting high quality journals for reading.

-

selecting a high quality journal for publication of your research article manuscript.

-

exploring the journals covered by a specific database like SCI\E.

-

checking if a journal satisfies the promotion criteria of your institution etc.

-

viewing a list of journals on a given subject category (e.g, getting a list of journals on physical

chemistry)

How to learn if a journal is covered by the Master Journal List or not?

Enter or type the to access the Master Journal List of the Thomson

Scientific (now Thomson Reuters).

Select the type of the search.

Note that you can enter search terms as part of

Title word search

-

Full journal title search

-

or ISSN search

Type the search term(s) and click search.

If you had chosen Title Word search type, type only a single word. For example, if you are searching

for journal of Applied Polymer Science choose polymer.

Note that the use of "Title Word Search" is recommended for long or complicated journal names.

How to do Cited References Search?

Scroll down the opened page or pages until you see the name of the searched journal in the list.

The journal you are looking for is not covered in any database of ISI if it is not listed.

Full Journal Title search is reccomended if you are absolutely sure about the name of the journal.

One needs to be careful in doing "Full Journal Title" search. This search type is not tolerrant to any

accidental misspelling. Plus, the name of the journal may be different in the database, or that journal

may have different edditions. For example a "Full Journal Title" search by using the words "Journal of

Polymer Science" will fail since it has variations like:

Note that there is a Coverage button for each journal. Now click Coverage to see the databases

covering this journal.

How to view the list of journals in a database

Skip entering search terms on the opening page.

Select a database in which you are going to check its coverage for your journal, and click its name (say

it is Science Citation Index in our example)
