Neodesha

Message from the PrincipalPrincipal: Nathan WestContact Information: 325-3015 nwest@ Social Media: Twitter- @NathanWest8Spring is upon us with March flying by with spring break and various NHS activities. Spring sports are beginning, and the school year is winding down. Here is a look back at what happened in March.Keith HershKeith Hersh was a Neodesha Graduate and former teacher at Neodesha High School. During this time, he felt there was a need to recognize the top scholars of each class. So, each year we honor his legacy and recognize the top 10% of academic scholars in each class with the Keith Hersh Banquet:lefttop BlueStreak BuddiesThis program has been ongoing for about a month and has receive nothing but positive feedback from our students. Our “Biggs” at the high school love spending time with their “Littles” at Heller. Several high school students want to spend more time with their students and are willing to give up their work time because they love their “Littles” so much. That’s how awesome our students are!!Kansas Redesign/Gemini II ProjectThe Kansas State Board of Education’s vision is: “Kansas will lead the world in the success of each student”. This vision drives the redesign process and we are currently working to provide each student that attends Neodesha High School with opportunities that will set them up for future success. Through this process we remain focused on building necessary skills that our students will need to enter a workforce with jobs that may not even exist at this time. Currently we are piloting a new schedule and looking at ways we can restructure our classes to better fit the needs of our students moving forward. We are currently analyzing our current state, dreaming about our perfect school, and creating a plan to bridge the gap and obtain our perfect school. Our teachers are working hard to provide our students with the best possible education and making sure that each decision we make is “what’s best for kids”. Please feel free to contact me at the high school office at 325-3015 or email me at nwest@ with any additional questions about this process. We have continued our pilot schedule through March and have made any necessary adjustments. We are currently working on adjusting our current pilot schedule to start our day with FAMILY time. By doing this, we can universalize our schedules and have a Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Tuesday, Thursday schedule. This small change will help us overcome one of the obstacles our students and staff have voiced during our pilot schedule phase. We are diligently working to listen to the feedback from our students and staff to create a school that best fits the needs of our students and community. We are also working on bridging the gap between our current school and our dream school. We are creating action plans to overcome the barriers that will allow us to achieve our dream school. We are working extremely hard to finalize our launch plan and redesigned school. These plans will be taken to the State Board of Education later this year. 4508500628650005897880598170004505960248793000449580059817000 NewsWe are currently selling various items to high school students for our Al La Cart lunches. Students have responded very well and like the new options they are being provided. We are still working on creating a partnership with Le Store to provide sandwiches, wraps, and pizza. These options would be cash only and would be an additional pilot program with our redesign efforts."Did you know that 58% of the students in our school district are eligible for free or reduced-price meal benefits?? Your family may qualify for meal eligibility benefits, even if you have not qualified in past school years.? For more information, contact our food service office at 620-325-3015.? Applications are available at each school office and at the district office"Community CleanupNeodesha High School will be conducting our 4th Annual community cleanup on Wednesday April 3rd. We have over 50 plus individual locations plus city parks and lots that our students will be helping clean up on Wednesday. This has been a great service for our community and our students really respond well to this day.Watch DOGS Program We have currently had 12 Watch DOGS participate in this program at NHS with Jeff Cunningham and Bob Evans volunteering three times. We have received excellent feedback on this and will continue to integrate this program into our district. Any interested male can contact Nathan West at 325-3015.
