– “Is Star Wars a Part of You?” Ad campaign

SYNOPSIS: 4 commercials taking normal everyday people and situations putting a major Star Wars twist into the mix, demonstrating how SW makes our lives more entertaining. This is not so much a full fledged ad campaign as it is a chance to have fun making some films with the guarantee of having them be seen by the masses, should we be successful at producing some quality content, which should be rather easy with the talent and equipment available to us.

People (Tentatively) with Project

Chris Hanel – Writer/Director, Editing, Actor(?)

Tom Henry – Camera and Lighting, Editing(?)

Brendan Jennings – Actor (“Jedi” commercial)

Matt & Nathan – Actors (“Stormtrooper” Commercial)

Scott Kingston – No Specified duties as of yet (animation?)

Here’s the proposed (and probable) ideas so far:

COMMERCIAL 1 – “Snowspeeder”

A hard day at the DAVE School comes to an end. 3 students walk out of the classroom and to their cars. We focus on one student in particular who walks past his friends’ cars and stops to look up and use a car remote of some kind… as a Snowspeeder descends into the parking space next to him. His friends look on in jaw-dropping awe as he gives a grin and a thumbs up.

COMMERCIAL 2 – “Stormtrooper”

A trio of gamers play an action shooter on a large TV – one of the three, sitting on the end, is a Stormtrooper. Trash talking builds until the gamer in the middle cheers in victory, going into a taunting frenzy on the trooper, pointing out his inability to shoot straight numerous times. The trooper responds by pulling a blaster on him. The camera goes to black before we hear the blaster shot, the gamer falling to the floor, and the 3rd gamer meekly saying, “Wanna play another round?”

COMMERCIAL 3 – “Wampa”

A cat burglar climbs out a window, “Beware of Dog” sign prominent in the foreground. He pats the totally harmless and sleeping dog on the head as he walks to the next house. Sneaking across the front of the next home, a “Beware of Wampa” sign is in the immediate view. As he starts to climb the privacy fence, a large white paw comes over the top and yanks him over. Screams, tearing, growling. After the logo presentation at the end, we have a bumper of the wampa burping from the other side of the fence and a piece of the burglars Star Trek boxer shorts appearing into view.

COMMERCIAL 4 – “Jedi”

A documentary style interview with a geek training to be a Jedi. Though he has no social, athletic, or other abilities, he trains on his own, meditating in front of his interactive Yoda. He practices blindfolded in front of a hanging basketball painted like a remote, swatting it with his plastic lightsaber and removing his blindfold to celebrate, only to be whacked in the head by it on its return path. He also tries to force push a Darth Maul action figure over, and obviously cheats by blowing air. Finally, we see the reason for his crusade – his Sith next door neighbor (who appears ripping the tags off a mattress).

#1 – SNOWSPEEDER

Assuming that all shoots on all commercials will require camera and standard lighting, here’s additional resources needed to pull this off-

3d animation of Snowspeder

Tom Henry says he has access to a detailed model. Will need to have someone on hand to do the animation and compositing. It is only one shot, so it’s not expected to be an intense amount of work.

3 Actors/Actresses

No dialogue, but acting is still important. I’m trying not to use actors more than once throughout the project, so Matt, Nathan, and Brendan I don’t want to use unless we can’t find anyone else, which I doubt will happen. Start tossing out names whenever you feel moved to.

Props

Except for a car remote, we’re solid.

Costumes

Only requirement for the actors is that the main guy is wearing a Star Wars cap, of which I have two. Maybe Tom can throw in an ILM shirt for good measure. :P

Filming – Outdoor, sunny, early afternoon. Couple hours approximate film time. All shots are static so no special equipment should be needed for the camera.

#2 – STORMTROOPER

Stormtrooper Outfit

Should not be a problem to find. I have plenty of friends with armor.

Widescreen TV

I have one in my home, I want crew to check it out first to make sure we can frame the shot against it correctly.

PS2/Xbox & Game

Looking at how this is written, I’d like it to be a Star Wars based first person shooter that they’re multiplayer on, so we can see the 4 person split screen. We will not have any shots that focus on the game itself, so this is not 100% priority, however, it would be really nice since copyright would be much less of an issue if it’s owned by LFL.

3 Actors

Matt for the wild gamer, Nathan Jessee for the quiet gamer, and whoever supplies the armor for the trooper, barring the unwillingness to get suited up on camera.

Filming – Nighttime, indoor. Lighting should look like the TV is the only source in the room. Again, all static shots.

#3 – WAMPA

Cat Burglar w/ sack o’ loot.

The outfit needs to be all black, I have a couple ideas. We could get really clichéd or have some fun with it, it’s up to the group.

2 “Beware” signs

It’s amazing what you can do with some glossy paper, a nice printer, and a political lawn sign. ( If we can get fancier, then so be it.

Animation for punchline

Wampa paw is animated, and the thief will have to be transitioned into a 3d version so he can get comically yanked over the fence.

1 Actor

No ideas yet. Shout them out.

Dog

Anyone here have a lazy dog?

Filming – Nighttime, outdoor. My house has a privacy fence and I storyboarded it with my house in mind. This shoot has a tracking shot so we need to plan accordingly.

#4 – Jedi

Jedi outfit

The cheesier the better. Something cheap that they put out for Halloween, if we’re able to find one. Toys R Us? Costume shop? We’ll check them out. Plastic lightsaber needed too. The Sith outfit I already have.

Interactive Yoda

Again, if nobody owns one we’ll have to check the toy stores.

Basketball painted like a remote

Speaks for itself, I think.

2 Actors

Brendan Jennings from SAK Comedy Lab has signed up for the role of the Jedi. I’m gonna be the Sith for the one shot we need of him.

Filming – Indoor, Daytime, documentary style, so plenty of natural lighting. The setting needs to be full of SW collectables, so hopefully someone already has a room like this.

Distribution of the films –

The commercials are going to be up for download at , where 50,000 people visit a day. I hope to have them up at as well, and if all turns out well, possibly editing them together into a series of shorts for the Atomfilms fanfilm contest. This is a total move of hypocrisy on my part, but I’m sure everyone involved wouldn’t mind seeing us do well, and if you want to enter, I don’t want to stop you.

Timeframe –

I’d like to be able to film all these in the span of two weekends. “Wampa” and “Stormtrooper” could be filmed on the same day, both being at my house. Post Production I have no idea what kind of time we’re looking at, but with some elbow grease it can’t be too long.
