Dr. Christian Lanphere is currently an Emergency Manager for the Cambridge Public Health Commission in Cambridge, Massachusetts, a medium-sized community of 110,000 and part of the Boston metropolitan area. Cambridge is home to three universities (Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Lesley University), a number of biotech companies, and pharmaceutical companies.

Dr. Lanphere’s focus is in emergency medical services, public health, and healthcare. He has led several large-scale homeland security exercises in the Boston area and has developed plans for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and Logan International Airport. His primary work is focused on mass casualty incidents, electronic patient tracking with Boston-area hospitals, and active-shooter events specifically focused on tactical emergency medical service components. His research interests are at the operational level in emergency management.

Dr. Lanphere is a member of the International Association of Emergency Managers and currently holds the title of chairman of the Global Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) Commission Council; a wish-granter with the Make-A-Wish Foundation; and a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Dr. Lanphere is looking forward to the conference to gain a better understanding from some of the Nation’s top researchers in emergency management regarding current trends and research that tells a little bit about the future of emergency management.
