Parent InformationRed-Hotts’ TryoutsParents of Red-Hotts Applicants, because of the limitations COVID-19 has imposed on us all, we are trying to be creative in the way we conduct tryouts this spring in order to complete this critical step of organization for the 2020 – 2021 Red-Hotts Team including the following:As a one-time exception, this year Red-Hotts tryouts will be virtual. A tryout dance will be sent to all applicants on April 26th. Please be sure to have your application turned in by noon Friday, April 24th with your email address written clearly. The applicant will learn the dance and must then return a video of their performance of that dance no later than noon, April 30, 2020. All videos will be reviewed by a selected panel of judges. Once selections are complete, each applicant will receive an email letting them know if they were selected no later than May 2nd.APPLICATIONS – May be picked up at the high school office or downloaded from the Red-Hotts’s web page. Applications must be turned in by email or at the high school office by 12:00 noon April 24th.Who is eligible to tryout? Tryout participants must currently be in grades 8 – 11, must be planning on attending Fredericksburg High School in the fall of 2020, and must have a GPA of 2.0 or higher.Is dance experience required to be on the team? While experience in dance is helpful, it is not required. Level of Commitment: Being a Red-Hott is a year-round activity, breaking only in July. Summer Commitment: Required Red-Hotts’ Line Camp, dates to be determined but will be 4 days in June and a 2-week Bootcamp in August. Financial Commitment: Camp - $ 160, Uniform - $700Tryout Clinic: Because of the unique situation this spring, we will not be having a clinic. On Sunday, April 26th we will send a tryout video to each girl who has turned in an application by noon, Friday, April 24th.Virtual Tryouts: In turn, by noon, April 30th, each applicant will need to email a video of herself performing the tryout routine to gails@.Required Performance for Tryouts: Participants 1) should be flexible, 2) should be able to follow music tempo, 3) should be able to perform a short sequence of high kicks, and 4) should be able to perform a series of dance steps individually. Each contestant will also be asked to perform right-leg splits and left-leg splits. Instructions and a demonstration will be on the tryout dance video. Continued….What should I wear in my tryout video? Tryout participants should dress in all-black: A. black tights or leggings B. a solid black leotard or tank top C. dance shoes if you have them; if not, tennis shoes D. hair neatly pulled back from face in a ponytail. Once all Tryout Videos have been reviewed, numbers of the applicants who have been selected will be posted online. Detailed information, again, will be on the tryout video. BEST OF LUCK TO YOU ALL!!!What our Yearly Red-Hotts’ Season Looks Like…Again, I would like to emphasize that Dance Team goes on throughout the entire school year.We do try to keep the month of July open for family time and trips, but that is the only month we are not busy!May – Red-Hotts say good-bye to seniors at the annual Red-Hotts Banquet. Team meetings are held to assign squads to new officers, turn in uniform items, & measure new members for uniforms. Payments are due for all uniforms and for Camps!!June – Officer Camp followed by Line Camp. This year’s Line Camp will be held 4 days during June (to be announced) and will continue as a required 2-week Boot Camp in August. We cannot overstate the importance of these camps.Attendance of all team members is required. New team members will learn the Red-Hotts’ basics, time is taken for dancetechnique, the whole team learns most of the dances they will perform in the fall, and a whole lot of team bonding goes on.July – Summer Vacation – Enjoy! Possible 4th of July fundraiser for team members who are in town.August – begin working as a team – 1st working on technique, then working on the first week’s game and pep rally performance. Dates for August Boot Camp will be announced in May. Required Weekly Wednesday Night Practices 6-8 begin.September, October, November – Continue performing at FHS football games/pep rallies. Each week a new dance is perfected/polished. We DO hold weekly tryouts!December – Red-Hotts “kick-off” the annual Fredericksburg Christmas Parade, and they also prepare routines to perform at FHS Basketball games. Our Christmas Party is usually held on the last Wednesday Practice Night.January – Red-Hotts host a Junior Red-Hott Clinic as a fund raiser and perform with students at a basketball game. Red-Hotts also begin working on a variety of routines which will be performed at competition in February.February – Each year the Red-Hotts host the Annual Hill Country Regional Dance Team Competition by Danceline. The team not only hosts 12-20 teams and studios from all across the state, they also compete with 3-4 of their own routinesplus a variety of solos. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and everyone helps!March – Red-Hotts are busy choreographing, teaching, learning, and perfecting a variety of new routines to be presented the Spring Show. Advertising and groundwork is also done for upcoming spring tryouts.April – Red-Hotts Tryouts are held in April for both the line and the officers for the coming year. Finishing touches lead us right up to ”Crunch Week” (practice every night!) of the Red-Hotts’ Spring Show. The Spring Show allows us to show-Case the dance talent on the team through a variety of songs, dances, and even a little acting/singing.The FHS Red-Hotts Dance Team meets, practices, and performs throughout the year. It DOES require a firm commitment, but team members are richly rewarded by being a part of one of the best traditions at FHS!!RED-HOTTS’ 2020 SPRING SHOWDANCING With Disney!!(tentatively scheduled) May 23rd and 24th ................
