LOCKE LIDDELL & SAPP EXPANDS INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY PRACTICE WITH HIRING OF TWO LATERAL ATTORNEYS IN HOUSTON

May 1, 2007 – Mark Gatschet and Daniel Nguyen have joined Locke Liddell & Sapp’s Houston office as Counsel in the Intellectual Property Section. Both have moved their IP practices from the Houston office of Jenkens & Gilchrist.

Gatschet has a PhD with an emphasis in molecular biology and Nguyen is an Electrical Engineer. These areas of technical expertise, when combined with their law degrees, help them better understand the needs of their clients. Gatschet and Nguyen will add to the depth and breadth of Locke Liddell’s already strong IP practice group. At the end of 2006, IP Law & Business magazine named Locke Liddell & Sapp among the Top 10 law firms in the country for intellectual property work. In its annual survey “of the firms Corporate America calls on for IP help,” Locke Liddell was listed as one of the top 10 “go-to firms” that general counsel at the Fortune 250 turn to for their primary IP litigation and patent work.

Gatschet focuses his IP practice on biotechnology and financial services sectors. Areas of emphasis include patent clearance and validity analyses for major pharmaceutical companies, as well as IP due diligence assessments in the context of major investments or mergers and acquisitions. Gatschet is a graduate of the University of Texas Law School, and he received a PhD degree from Oklahoma State University, a MS degree from Kansas State University, and a Bachelor’s degree from St. Louis University.

Nguyen focuses his IP practice on patents, trademarks and licensing.  A Licensed Professional Engineer, he has worked with clients on preparing and prosecuting numerous U.S. and international patent applications for innovations in the software, electronics, telecommunication, information technology, oilfield services, financial services, and gaming industries. He is a graduate of the University of Houston Law Center and has an undergraduate degree from Texas A&M University.

Locke Liddell & Sapp’s IP attorneys have years of experience – both domestic and international – in helping clients secure, exploit and defend their valuable intellectual property. Attorneys work with patents, trademarks, trade dress, copyrights, publicity rights and trade secrets in a broad range of technologies and applications, from electrical and mechanical technologies to chemistry and biotechnology.  They are well versed in software and databases, business methods and proprietary processes.

Established in 1891, Locke Liddell & Sapp LLP is recognized as one of the leading law firms in Texas and throughout the nation. A full service law firm with offices in Austin, Dallas, Houston, New Orleans and Washington, D.C., Locke Liddell & Sapp has approximately 400 lawyers who represent a broad range of businesses and individual clients having extensive domestic and foreign business interests.
