Coagulation:
Anticoagulants and Coagulants
Lesson Objectives: At the completion of this lesson, the student will:
1. Relate the basic concepts of hemostasis and fibrinolysis to drug therapy.
2. Distinguish among specific anticoagulant agents in relation to
pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, and side effects and rationale
for use.
3. Describe clinical manifestations as related to anticoagulant and coagulant
therapy.
4. Discuss education necessary for individuals on coagulant therapy.
5. Utilize the nursing process to identify specific nursing considerations for
individuals receiving agents that affect coagulation.
