Comparing Economies: Traditional, Developing, and Developed

Vocab:

Infrastructure- the glue which holds modern cities, countries together: telecommunications, transportation networks (airports, highways..), buildings…

Traditional economy- a basic economy which relies on raw materials and primary resources (traditional First Nations economies)

Developing economy- an economy which is developing its infrastructure, and technology but still relies mostly on primary resources

Developed economy- an economy which is fully industrialized

Subsistence agriculture- farmers consume what they produce, no profit- similar to traditional First Nations economies

Productivity- the time it takes to produce, manufacture, or extract materials; economic efficiency

Examine Figure 16-12 on p. 401 and answer the following questions:

2. How would you explain why the above areas have such a large percentage of workers in primary industries?
