Such as mountains, valleys, and plains.Maps can model the surface features of Earth. Types of maps are, weather map, road map, shopping mall map (locater map), floor map, topographic map and a world map (continents).Using a compass rose shows the cardinal directions –north, south, east and west. The cardinal directions are indicated on the compass rose as N, S, E, and W.It is important to mention that any map has a key. The key explains the meaning of the symbols, colors and lines. It is important to know that the key helps us understand what the symbols lines, and colors on a map means.Scientists use maps to study Earth. Scientists use maps, because it is easier to see patterns. How diseases are common in some areas or the way the spread to areas. One example of these is a medical map.Scientist use weather map. This map shows rain fall, temperature, air pressure, and other parts of weather. A weather map usually applies to a few days.They also use resources map. Resources map shows where resources such as gold, iron, and coal are found.Also the star maps help scientists point telescopes in the direction of the objects they want to observe. Other ways scientists use maps to know where certain animals live. A topographic map uses contour lines to show a mountains change elevation. A topographic map show high and low places, or elevation. This map show us high places using contour lines and numbers. Weather like at very high elevations it may be cold, windy or snowy.Some animals that live there are bighorn sheep, ears, mountain lions, and other animals adapted to cold conditions. A ring of fire is a circle around the Pacific Ocean along the east coast of Asia, and Australia and west coast of North and South America.Earthquakes and volcanoes can change Earth’s surface. Earthquakes occur on land and underwater. Volcanoes can send lava, ash, smoke and dust high into the air.Anything in the path of an erupting volcanoes would be destroyed and covered with rock and ash. Ash and gases could carry in the wind across wide areas.Earthquakes might be over in a few minutes , but the collapsing buildings and bridges and loss power can be devastating. Which is worse depends on the severity of the event.The pattern of the ring fire represents where earthquakes and volcanoes have occurred again and again.Earthquakes and volcanoes are weather related, but can occur in any type of weather.
