Poverty is about not having enough money to meet basic needs including food, clothing and shelter. However, poverty in more, much more than just not having enough money.The world bank describes poverty in this way ‘’Poverty is hunger. Poverty is lack of shelter.’’

Poverty is general scarcity, death or the state of one who lacks a certain amount of material possessions or money. It is a multifaceted concept, which includes social, economic and political elements. Poverty may be defined as either absolute or relative.

Poverty is associated with the undermining of a range of key human attributes, including health.

Factors

• Changing trends in a country’s economy

• Environmental problems such as lack of rainfall.

• Lack of education

• High divorce rate 

• Overpopulation

• Epidemic diseases

Impact Of Poverty

• Over utilization of natural resources.

• Illegal land grabbing.

• Child antisocial behavior.

• Reduced average life time.

• Increase in crime rate.

Measures taken

• Starting welfare state and charities.

• Initiative of BPL and ration cards 

• Decrease the cost of living

• Make healthcare free and accessible to all

• Providing free education till 5th grade

• Starting employment schemes like NREGA

KRISHNA PUSHKARALU-PEDARIKAM PAI GELUPU-WORKSHOP-REPORT

The Department of Commerce has organised a one day workshop on ‘’Poverty-issues and challenges’’ on the eve of Krishna pushkaralu by Government of Andhra Pradesh on 22nd August, 2016 i.e. Monday at Chemistry seminar hall from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm.

FORENOON SESSION:

Dr.G.V.L.Narasimha Rao, former Associate Professor of Economics, M.R.(A) College, vizianagaram , has participated as Chief Guest in the event.

Dr.B.S.N.Raju, In-Charge director, presided over the event. Prof.D.R.K.Raju, correspondent, MANSAS Educational Institutions and other guests occupied the dias and honoured at 11.00 am.

Programme has initiated by the lightning the lamp by the guests at 11.10 am and prayer song by the students at 11.15 am.

Smt.CH.Karuna, HOD, Commerce has acted as keynote speaker at 11.20 am.

Dr.B.S.N.Raju has presided over the event and delivered his inspired words on the status and statistics of poverty in India at 11.30 am.

Prof.D.R.K.Raju, correspondent, has delivered his motivational speech regarding schemes of government to eliminate poverty and the role of students in eradicating poverty at 11.45 am.

Dr.G.V.L.Narasimha rao has given his profile, inspired presentation on causes of poverty, distinguished between rich and poor and role of youth in eliminating poverty and also has interacted with students and finished his presentation by 12.45 pm.

Dr.B.S.N.Raju, In-Charge Director , Dr.Viswabhushan, HOD, Socialwork, Smt.CH.Karuna HOD, Commerce honoured the chief guest with mementos at 12:50 pm.

All the guests, staff and students moved to chart exhibition at 1.00 pm.

All the participants were dispersed for lunch.

Smt.CH. Karuna, Sr. Asst. Prof. and HOD commerce and her staff Sri Durga, Asst. Prof., Rukmini murugeshan, Asst. Prof, Vasavi, Asst. Prof., Dr. Krishna Kishore, Chemistry, Dr. Viswabhushan, social work, Dr. Rama Rao, Economics were participated.

AFTERNOON SESSION:

❖ Speaches and powerpoint presentations on eradication of poverty by students at 2.00 pm.

❖ Students exhibit their charts regarding various issues related to poverty at 3.00 pm.

❖ Students and staff from various departments were visited and shared their views.

❖ All the students and staff gathered at seminar hall and dispersed by singing Janaganaman.
